I started working when I was 12. By the time I was 20 I already had 19 previous jobs (some simultaneously) in various fields. Unfortunately when I was 16 I was let go by some crabby boss who was unsatisfied with my performance in a retail environment.

I spent almost 17 years at my last job before starting my own bidness and semi-retiring. I caught up with my old boss and we have plans to meet up for lunch. Today, March 5, 2013, is her 40TH ANNIVERSARY on the job! She started in 1973. Her boss started in 1968 and retired in 2012....44 years on the job!

Yeah, was let go/laid off from working at a donation call centre when I was around 14-15 years old. It was one of two jobs I had at the time, so not a huge loss and it was also about the time I could confirm I was not cut out to be a salesmen and that I would never, ever do telemarketing again.

I hear ya. I tried TM a few times and it sucked every time. The pressures are great on everyone because no one likes being cold called! The worst one was when I was 16 I tried this worthless fly-by-night outfit that promised the moon.

They were nothing but a bunch of liars, thieves, drug users and evil doers. They spiked the coffee with amphetimines, cheated people out of commissions, and were shady as hell. I told them I was going to lunch and never came back. 😳

Yeah, it's awful and I feel bad for anyone who has to do it. It's also why I always try to be very nice to the people calling because I know it sucks so damn much to be them. 🙁

Only once as I kid, becaused I refused to buy tools for my job (construction). I was making min. wage and even the higher paid that had there own tools were only making 10-12 an hour. So ya I didn't really give a fuck.

That was the first and last time I've been fired even though I'll admit if I was the boss at some of the places I worked I would've probably have fired my ass. Hell of a worker when I show up, but used to have a bad habit of simple not going (army got rid of that lol)

Yes, for telling my boss at a Coffee Shop to stop being such a condescending bitch to me because I was a new hire. I had that job for 4 days, by the third day I became physically ill just thinking about going on.

She finally fired me on the 4th day. Had a new job the next day.

I'm not sure.

When I was self employed my boss was a massive douche canoe and said he was going to fire me, but I quit before he could. Showed him.

Kind of I got weaseled out of a retail job at BestBuy. I worked there for a year selling cameras. My performance was good as far as I could tell. For some reason when Christmas started back up they bumped me from Part-Time to Seasonal and I lost my bonus (bullshit I was 17 at the time could have used that money). When I saw I was put in as seasonal I talked to the GM of the store and he said everything was worked out, told me to come in after the Seasonal Layoffs. I came in and was removed from the system, couldn't clock it and such, when I talked to the GM about it he said it was a computer problem and if I wanted my job back I had to put in an application online.

They clearly didn't want me back so I never reapplied.

Sounds like a case of "Office Space" where they "fixed the problem."

When I was 17 was working for a Food Processing facility. Just Googled them and they are still a huge Corporation.

My parents came to work to pick me up because my Grandfather had just died.

The Manager was a woman and she said that unless it was my own Funeral if I left I was fired.

Been laid off, never fired. I tend to lurk in places I work. I think the shortest stint was for about 5 months and I was only there until the project was finished. They wanted me to keep working for them but school started back up and I was falling behind so I had to tell them no thanks.

Not yet, but only worked for one company so far not counting student jobs while I was in school. Started off at help desk.. pretty hard to screw up at that job. Even had a guy rage out and smash his keyboard and he was not fired (think he got written up though).

Then I moved to L3 server tech at the local hospital. My real boss was nice but the IT manager there, technically my second boss, was an asshole, and I'm sure he tried to get me fired on many occasions, he's just that type of person, a backstabber. Everything was always our fault. Even stuff that was a complete outside factor, like someone forgetting their password and causing a patient to die since they can't get in the system. At least 1 hour per day he'd come in the office and soap box us on how everything we did is wrong and how we should have done it. Had weekly meetings too that was basically the same thing.

A few years of dealing with that BS I was looking for a way out, but wanted to try staying for the same company given I've been accumulating a pension, seniority etc... don't want to start over. A NOC position came out, it sounded interested but lot of the telco side stuff was over my head, but decided to apply anyway. Been over a year now and I don't regret it one bit. The shift work is nice too, this is like a retirement job. Nice boss too. Would have to screw up pretty badly to get written up, let alone fired.

Well sort of... I was laid off BUT my boss already had an interview lined up for me and I already had a new job before my last day.

i went to a place to interview for a phone support position, before the interview they said "we are not at all flexible on hours, coming in early, leaving late, taking unplanned days, etc"

i left immediately, ended up with an internship with the IT department for a medical group making more than the call center would have paid.

never been fired.
