Have you ever been bitten by a tick...

I've been bitten by a tick (on vacation in Northern Michigan), but never got sick because of it. The bite was on my arm, and swelled up to about 4 times its normal size, and I got a bullseye pattern, along with the worst itching I've ever experienced.

Heavy doses of antibiotics helped quite a bit, but it's not something I'd like to go through ever again.

Had a tick on me once (it was in my hair; the arachnid had swelled up to the size of a pencil eraser). Didn't get a disease from it. Freaked me out so much I just yanked it out (which you're not supposed to do).

Been bitten twice. First time was in the woods by my Aunt and Uncle's house in Maryland. Second time was when I was in Germany for school. My aunt removed the first one, and I had to go to the hospital to have the second one removed. Visiting the Hospital in Germany was an interesting time since I was having trouble understanding the doctors.

Yep, been bitten a few times by normal ticks (not Deer Ticks) due to the much time spent outside as a youngster.

Yes, unfortunately... I contracted Lyme Disease and it took me a good year to get back to feeling physically normal. It's much more common than people realize.

No and no. However, my youngest daughter was 5 or six and came home from a friends with a tick on her ear. We were on the way to the doctor to get it off and she said from the back seat of the car "what does this tick want anywayz?"

It was cut and I laughed a bit.

What are the symptoms?
I pulled a tick off of me about a month or more ago, took all month or longer for the bites to heal, (can still see them actually). But I dont feel sick or anything....

I can't believe all the people here who have never been bitten. Seriously, I've come back from the woods with six or seven of the little bastards sucking on me at once.

Never gotten sick or a disease from one but I can remember trudging through the woods in Montana with white sheets collecting ticks that my grandfather used in his research of Rocky Mountain spotted fever and other Rickettsia based infections.

1. Not everyone goes into the woods.
2. If you don't go into the woods, and live up north, you're a lot safer from ticks and spiders.
3. There is no 3, but a list needs to have at least three items, right?

I think you spend a lot more time in the woods than the average ATOTer. Also, when you go to the woods, you're looknig for bugs, and the rest of us bring insect repellant.

It's Lyme, not lime.
Also, I've been bitten by ticks and such, but I was most likely born w/ Lyme disease. Many more people have it than know (I just found out this year, because my doc found out she had a variant of it and all the symptoms matched up...tests did, too).

In some states it has become very much a political issue, and the CDC's info is somewhat out of date. They don't seem to want much involvement, and will likely not change their info unti, several current long-term studies get real data that can be used (maybe 5-10 years).

Much better link

What happens if you get it and don't know, and never get treated? WIll it just go away??? or stay with you until treated?
