Have you ever been a victim of eBay fraud?

I have been eBaying for a long time and for the most part, it's ok, but have had been a victim of few frauds. I never had a issue with not getting anything, but have had issues with getting less than what I had won.

I have won bids on brand name items and received counterfeits, "brand new" items that shows signs of use and information tools that do not work.

I both buy and sell and I've never had any problems.. unless you count people that forget to leave feedback all together. 😛

I knew someone who had a cousin whose brothers friend new some guy whose friends girlfriend almost got ripped off but i guess it they worked it out, so i guess not 🙂

An IBM laptop hard drive that was dead and the seller conveniently changed his email address because his old isp one changed and he never told me the new one and I ended up getting his phone number and I called him multiple times and left messages. I finally got a hold of him and some family members and he told me my parents names and that he was gonna put a restraining order on me because he was in politics and he had access to this information. Shady gov't member if I ever saw one. Took like a $50 hit on that one.

One of my friend got DVDs from eBay quite a few times. He's got a few high quality pirated DVDs, but this time he got burned with poor quality pirated ones.

I wouldn't call that "getting burned"

Serves him right

once i bid on an item, and the guy quoted me shipping, after the auction, like 500% of the actual shipping cost. so i didnt pay.

I was selling a game on Ebay and at the last minute someone sniped it and said he didn't have the money and sorry he bid on the item and disappeared. Other than that no big problems with flea bay.

Bought a von dutch shirt, the seller sent me an obviously fake one the label read like "american textiles" "made in ukrain"

I recently sold an item on eBay and the guy was a NPB. I am not going to leave negative feedback as the kid probably wants to retaliate.

Worst for me was a notebook I sold...

I'd registered it with Compaq, & noted that in my description...

A buyer ran an auction for my notebook @ the same time, made $200 & sold my notebook withing 36 hours after winning it from me.

Orig buyer had me ship it to the new winner (non-verified paypal address) new buyer tried to register it with Compaq, told by Compaq that it appeared to be stolen, did a chargeback through Paypal, as the orig buyer did to me shortly afterwards.

It took me a good day to track the guy down (car salesman in Ohio) talked to his boss & mom, told them he was going to go to jail if I didn't get my $... He had several Ebay identies & evidently pulled this kind of crap regularly with big ticket items, altering the description to get more $ for the item.

He caved & gave me my $, don't know the outcome between he & his buyer, he asked for my help in straightening it all out & I told him I'd help, and after I got my $, I hever responded to his emails again...

Paypal & eBay were absolutely no help in finding him. I used a couple of paid identity search engines & did reverse lookups on the contact phone #'s for the multiple identies, he used his work # & address for one of the identies, that helped me sort out what the heck he'd done.

Bought a very expensive piece of software for next to nothing (it was listed in the wrong category which is why I thought I got lucky). When it arrived it was just a CD with a cracked version of the real software. Guy wouldn't refund me because he insisted I got exactly what he offered.

I bought a Panasonic CD head unit from a seller who was supposedly very reputable (over 11K positives). However, they stopped shipping about the time I bought my item, but continued to list items. They would not respond to e-mails and disconnected their phone. I complained on the USPS website and they got a copy of a complaint alleging mail fraud. They sent me a refund check shortly thereafter.

Bought a $600 laptop, sent payment, never got laptop. The guy ran the same auction several more times, stole thousands of dollars. I got his correct name, address, phone #. eBay did nothing(they did ban him after about three months), SquareTrade did nothing. FTC did nothing, USPS did nothing, police did nothing.:|

my first and last time of being ripped on ebay. bought a laptop and it never arrived. filed every single report possible with the limited information i received.

1 year later, a FBI agent called me to confirm some bits of information.

3 months after that FBI convo, i received a court paper detailing the arrest of my man! it says i may or may not ever receive money lost, but this person is in jail 😀

Many times had non-paying bidders, particularly for high ticket items. Sigh.

One lady sniped a camera I was selling, then didn't respond to e-mails or anything for a week. I looked at her feedback and saw lots of sellers saying she got back to them after a week or more "had family trouble...".

So I left her neg feedback (as I state in my auctions I will do if I'm not contacted in 2 days, but I'm usually more flexible), and relisted the camera. Suddenly the $$ appeared in my PayPal acct. I refused the payment and e-mailed her again telling her it was too late, and she gave me this sob story about family probs. I'm like, "You sniped the auction!!! You bid in the last 2 minutes!!! Then between clicking on "Place Bid" and either sending payment or contacting me you suddenly had a family problem? I read your feedback, and this seems to happen on anything you bid on over $100. Why is that?"

Wow. The threats I got from her after that would melt your monitor! 😛 I laughed her off, notified eBay, put her on my refuse bids list, and went on my merry way. In fact, that's my only neg feedback. heh

I bought a book on half.com, the seller had like 10k positive and maby 200 negative. It's hard to find anyone without 1000+ feedback anymore, and all the 1000+ guys have negatives no matter what.

2 weeks went by and nothing, i contacted the seller and they never responded, a month went by and i filed a claim with ebay.

Not like they did anything about it though :|

The thing is i know they are just a large used bookstore and lost the order, but it pisses me off they don't respond to email. At least it was less than 20$
