ever bought a car in cash, no loan?

what type of car was it (year, model) and what year did you buy it? how much?

have you since always bought cars with cash?

yup,
every single one i've bought. That + my bike.

96 talon tsi awd $6200
97 talon base $2400
90 nissan 300zx $4000
90 nissan 300zx $3500
96 audi a4 quattro $3400
97 honda cbr f3 $1800

Bought three vehicles (two cars, one motorcycle) so far, all with cash. Assuming interest rates stay down and my investments stay up the next vehicle will probably get a loan.

my dad buys all his cars with cash.

04 jetta 1.8t (older sis)
03 g35 sedan (moms)
04 tahoe (dads)
95 tahoe (mine)
99 camry (younger sis)

Why is it that whenever you buy a car, you buy two?

I wish I had the funds available to buy a good car with cash. My first car was bought with cash though, 94 Pontiac Sunbird. Piece of Sh!t. I wish I could have that car crushed into a cube, but my parents made me sell it when I joined the military.

Kinda.

Parents helped me out, but we paid in fully backed check. $4700 for a 1997 Saturn SC2, about a year and a half ago.

I then moved on to my 1994 Mazda Miata, its in my sig. We paid with a cashiers check. It cost $4300, this was done about 2 months ago.

No loan was taken out on either of these cars.

I bought a 90' 240sx for 2700 a few years back. Put on 114000 miles on it in 3.5 years.
Looking to buy a coupla years old Acura TL ~ 12k-15k cash. Probably will do it by March at the latest. My car is still running fine.

even if you had cash, would it be a better idea to take out a loan wiht a lowest possible interest rate to build credit?

<== i am newb

ugh, a friend of mine has a Sunbird. I know what you're talking about 🙁

I've bought all my cars in cash:
'84 BMW 325e $1500
'89 Toyota Celica ST (actually a bit of a trade with a friend...but like $100 IIRC)
'89 Toyota MR2 $2100
'90 VW Golf $1600

If you have decent credit you should be able to get a car loan with such a low interest rate (maybe zero) that paying cash makes no sense. Get a return on your money, if you pay cash you lose a big chunk of it as soon as you drive it away. Search for the lowest interest rate you can get and invest the cash conservatively.

yes.
had a loan on one car that I bought new,
the ex-wife got to keep it when we divorced.

I got to pay it off. 🙁

Subaru Impreza,I liked that car.

Amen to Scoobies 😀

I was paying on a lease but did not like it so I plunked down the last 12k on my car 2 weeks ago. No payments is great!

I wrote out a cheque, no loan for the Subaru Forrester XT I bought a little over a year ago.

Paying cash is easy after the first car or two - just keep it for 7 - 10 years and save up.

Or buy used and what you can afford the first time.
