Have wireless internet?

Someone I know wants to be able to have wireless internet for his laptop (ie, drive around and use the internet wherever he goes)... I've never done anything like this and was wondering where the best place to look would be? I know some cell phones you can use to dial up isps and hook them into your laptop, but aren't there also companies that deal specifically with wireless internet?

i've done that with my sprint pcs phone, signed up for wireless web and bought a connection kit that hooks up my phone to my laptop. slow internet.

you can get dedicated PC cards for internet, although you have to specifically sign up for the internet service and it charges a lot. i know verizon and sprint at least do it, just look for the PC card under their phones section.

its pricey though.

Verizon has a new Wireless Internet service in some areas.

$79/month and 300kpbs-500kps

That's why most companies don't deal with it😀

Too much$$ and providing good coverage is a bitch if you don't own your own towers..back to the problem of $$ and using other carrier's towers or having your own.

$$

Is there a way to use your phone as a modem with a a converter kit to just dialup a regular isp (Earthlink, AOL) and it just charges you the normal minute fees?

yes.
when i use the connection kit with my laptop/ cell phone, the cell phone becomes a modem. i can use sprint's software to connect to sprint's wireless web, or dial in to any ISP using windows dial up networking.

Get an aircard

We have ones from Sprint and AT&T, I prefer the Sprint ones since they are twice as fast, but the AT&T one seemed to have better coverage in some areas

AT&T has unlimited access for $80/month. I guess it's like 150-250 Kbps. you have to be in their GSM network though, so don't expect to be downloading porn when you're in the middle of nowhere.
