really need so advice hear so I make the right purchase. Our 2nd computer will be app. 40 ft from the router and I am hoping that this will work. If there is something that will provide a better solution I would really appreciate the response.

that's not a wireless device....it's meant for a cable (from the router to this adapter)...so as long as that's what you want, should be fine...but since you mention 2.4ghz, I think you want a wireless one?

also, a wireless pci card isn't too hard to install, and would probably be a bit cheaper.
