Have we not discussed 'America Unearthed' yet?

So many people I know have cancelled their cable service and now only use Netflix and Hulu to watch TV series. It saddens me, as I am unable to say 'LOL have you seen this terrible-ass pile of terrible that is now being aired on suchandsuch channel?'

So I must alert you to the existence of America Unearthed, the 'History Channel' show that is the bastard offspring of Ancient Aliens and Dan 'My Face is My Ass' Brown.

I just can't not watch it. It's nothing new...probably pretty similar to that 'Brad Meltzer Decodes Stuff' show. Which I think was mostly about James Carville sucking Dan Brown's dick to find the fountain of youth.

But somehow these people just don't outright piss me off as much as make me laugh. A lot. It's basically Ancient Aliens, yeah, but it is presented (terribly so) as this Indiana Jones adventure that is based on completely logical speculation. Self-validating speculation. It's a bit scary that people might actually take this seriously.

What's nice is that it seems that a lot of people watching don't, in fact, take this seriously. This guy's blog is quite popular (and he actually gives you some history lessons while debunking the show).

...and it doesn't hurt that Scott Walter, the Tom Hanks with a Pony Tail of the show, has actually made legit appearances in the blog's comments. Surely this will eventually result in some infamous self-ownage, if you can't already consider that to have happened.

Cliffs: America Unearther- 100% recommended hate-watching material. Makes Pawn Stars look like the Encyclopedia Brittanica in comparison.

I don't understand the concept of "hate watching" a show. If it's shit, why watch it? I don't want to watch something that's just going to make me angry. If I want to listen to stupid people say stupid things, I'll open P&N. What's the draw?

I can't explain it. I don't understand it, even though I do it. Most trash TV is unwatchable to me, but for some reason, a few shows manage to grab my interest in a 'for the lulz' type of way.

I watch Ancient Aliens for the lulz, but America Unearthed has no redeeming value at all. Scott Wolter is a retarded douchecanoe and the few episodes of his show that I've watched have holes big enough to drive the US Pacific Fleet through.

Waiting to see what ridiculous thing Wolter will say next is fun. You know it's coming, and you know it will be stupid, but Wolter almost always exceeds your expectations.

The constant recycling of claims and footage is irritating, though.

The History Channel ceased being relevant years ago, along with the rest of the broadcast media industry.

The blog is very good. Shows like this make me glad I don't have TV. I like interesting things, and alt history can be cool when it isn't blatant stupidity, but shows like this leave me disappointed and angry. I've read a few of the blog entries, but some of them are utterly ridiculous. They aren't even worth it for the satisfaction of being right. It's like watching a SEAL team compete in the Special Olympics. It's a hollow victory.

Ancient Aliens has got to be the biggist pile of shit I have ever seen! It's fun to keep it on in the back ground while I'm surfing the net, but FUCK! It's as bad as Coast To Coast on AM.

H2 is all I watch, but Ancient Aliens has got to go.

What I like is that Colavito points out the things that I miss...the things that I take for granted as not being complete fabrications.

On that show, it's like, a statement is made, a couple basic facts are mentioned...then Wolter uses those facts and a bit of his own crazy speculation to reach what he presents as a sound conclusion. And the viewer says 'how in the FUCK is that what he came up with given that information?'

Then you read that blog, and he echoes your sentiments...but also breaks it down and mentions how every single thing that came out of the guy's mouth was actually completely wrong. Wolter is presenting absurd history to 'correct' established history...but he even manages to get the established history wrong.

For those of you who just want an idea of what goes on, but don't want to watch:

7. Secret Blueprint of America
Scott Wolter investigates whether Washington, D.C. was laid out using the megalithic yard, a measuring unit supposedly used at Stonehenge, in order to prepare the city for goddess worship by George Washington.

Seems like it was kicked off by a one off show they did a few years ago called The Holy Grail in America

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbX1qrtgyvw

It doesn't really dwell on the grail as a focal point, but instead makes a case for the last of the knights templar coming to the new world on one of the pre-Columbus viking voyages. Good old Scott is in it and there is a bit of reaching, but some of the connections the show attempts to make are kind of interesting.

That show they had on the history channel a few years ago where they postulated that the Vikings travelled to what is now Minnesota was preposterous.

It's probably not entirely coincidental that they have many guests from Coast to Coast on their show.
