Yes. I just begged, and pleaded. Just be nice and beg. Another thing to do is not drive fast.

Once. (My only time to be pulled over) I had just dropped my little sister off at school (7:50 in the morning, still in my PJ's) The officer knew I was semi half asleep....guess he felt sorry for me b/c he looked at my license and my addy was a good 15 min drive from her school.....he just asked me where I worked.....do I go to school....let me off with a warning. I don't speed anymore. (Not even 5 over anymore)

Heh, I was all paranoid after I got my first ticket, too. I would always stay at the speed limit, and stay in the slow lane at all times.

One week later, I was back to doing 90.

Plenty of times weezergirl, each time I told the truth and the officers let me go. Sometimes, honesty is the best policy :)

what was the truth? i mean is there ever a good reason to speed (save the rushing to the hospital or something of that nature story)

i would think "oh i was speeding cuz i'm late to work" or somethign liek that woudln't pass over so well with the cop.

anyways, i was asking cuz over spring break i went on a roadtrip with my roommates and we got caught speeding, we didnt' really know we were speeding cuz most of the freeways are around 70 but this one weird part suddnely cut down to 60 then 55 and we were still going a little over 70 but we didn't know...so anyways, we got the ticket and the cop knew we were from out of town and it was spring break and he didnt' cut us any slack! of course we didn't try to say anything. the stupid thing was when he pulled us over we pulled over right in front of the speed zone sign so it would have been lame to say "oh we didnt know this area was 55" when the sign was right in front of us! hehe. anyways, this was everybody in the car's first ticket so we didnt' really know what to say. but yeah, next time i'm gonna try and open my mouth and say something! it sucks too cuz the ticket was in oregon while we live in los angeles. blah.

I was late and traffic had backed up with my car sitting about 300 yards from my exit. Four or five cars shot by me, on the shoulder to get to the exit so I decided to try it. Of course a cop saw me and stopped me. He started lecturing me on how what I was doing was cause of accidents and that I was endangering road construction workers. I replied that the workers were located on the other side of the exit. Seeing that my reply pissed him off, I told him that what I did was really stupid, it was the first time I had ever did it and that I would never do it again. He looked at me, said "ok", and walked away.

act politely and dont be a jerk and if you seem genuine some cops will let you go. motorcycle cops are incredibly hard though so you better be gooood if you run into one of those.

The last time I was stopped, I just laughed and said OK, you got me. Then I tolded him the only way this day could get any worst is if he took out his gun and shot me. He cracked up, and told me to slow down and try to have a better day.

my Mom lives in LA and speaks fluent French. Whenever she gets pulled over, she says (convincingly) in a thick French accent, "Wheeeech way is Disneeeeeeeeyland"???

LOL, funny story. I've been written up more times than I can count. The only time I was ever let go without a ticket was when I was driving down the 405 in L.A. around midnight going about 110 mph. The cop pulled me over expecting I don't know what but I was in just a kind of "oh well, WTF" attitude. He asked me what I was doing and if I knew how fast I was going. I just said sure, I was okay and I was just cruising along not really in any hurry; I just like to drive sometimes. He gave me a real funny look and then said, okay have a nice night but keep it a bit slower, gave me my license and registration back and then just drove off.

I've always had speeding problems because I like to drive fast; regularly 100+. I've paid more tickets and gone to more traffic school than I care to think about.

I've been let go while having been drunk many times in the eighties. Times have changed for the better, and i'm glad they've cracked down on drunken driving.

On the matter of speeding tickets, I will tell you that i've not been ticketed in almost three years, but about three years ago I was ticketed three times in as many weeks. For some reason the cops in my city had a hard on for me that month. I was even ticketed on Easter Sunday, not that it mattered to me as I am not a believer.

All three times I was driving a cab and foolishly driving about 14 or 15 miles over the limit, because the people in the back seat just had to get to their destination that extra five minutes quicker, and I stupidly listened.

I quit driving cab and don't get tickets anymore. Cops like to penalize cabbies for trying to make a living where I live, but other places cabbies are almost never ticketed, unless they are really driving like a moron.

It's not that I think cabbies should be treated above the law, just that the officers should weigh the facts in the situation, and try to realize that the cabbie is just trying to make his living, and some people won't tip if the cabbie doesn't do as they say, no matter how silly that sounds, some people have control issues, and at the time I just drove a bit faster if I thought it meant an extra ten bucks in my pocket. Oh well, live and learn.

A question i'd like to ask is if officers who ticket cabbies because they don't want anyone to be treated as though they are above the law is, that being the case, why is it that officers in no particular city or state statistically never seem to speed, or at least they are never ticketed. Now to me that seems unfair. I don't think flashing a badge should get you out of a ticket, especially if a cabbie can't get an occasional break from time to time.

I know my opinion will never change the situation, but I just wanted to state my point. To those that say they deserve to be let off for the job they do and the fact that they put their life on the line for me, i'll say this. They chose their proffession, and they knew the consequenses. Do you people know that a cabbie is ten times more likely statisticly to be killed by a fare than an officer is to be killed by a criminal on the job? Since by the cops logic the cabbies are putting their life on the line, shouldn't they get the occasional break on tickets? I just cannot stand hypocrites, especially when they wear a badge. End of rant.

WOW!:Q I hope you have sense not to drive like that in traffic. You need one of these. It's saved my butt more times than I care to admit. You could be their posterchild.:D

Talked my way out once. I was interning at a newspaper in mansfield OH when we got a call of a trailer home fully engulfed with the possibility of 2 disabled people trapped inside. Those in the industry know that thats about as good as it gets. Problem was the place was out in the boonies-about 40 minutes away. If I took 40 minutes to get there the fire would already be out, so I hauled ass. Then a cop pulled me over for squealing tires from a stop light. Asked me why I was in a hurry and I showed him my press badge and explained the fire. Unfortunately, not only did he take his sweet ass time checking my ID and verifying everything, but when I got to the area of the fire I couldnt find the mobile home. By the time I got to it 1.5 hours later, firefighters were nearly ready to leave.
