Hey, for the past 2 days my computer has been basically locked down, Half of the time I cannot get to the login screen to enter my account password without my computer crashing. Ive booted into safe mode and found trojan.win32.Conhook!IK, but every time I try to quarantine it, the computer does the "windows/service32.exe error, shutting down in 1 minute" problem. How can I possibly get rid of this when I can hardly get into safe mode without crashing?

You might want to download and burn an F-Secure Rescue CD, boot the computer from the CD and let it run a scan. There's a download link here: http://www.f-secure.com/linux-...escue-cd-300-released/ Do you have a system that'll burn an .ISO?

Oh, and before doing that, it would be prudent to back up your important stuff: Favorites, email, contacts, pics, movies, music, etc. Also be sure you have what you'd need to reinstall Windows if it comes to that: Windows disc, license key, and 2 hours' worth of snacks ;)

I cant even get the OS to load, even in safe mode :(

when I enter my login info, my desktop background shows up but nothing else, I cant even load task manager in either. Before this, I had been turning my PC on/off during operation because everything was locking up, and then I went into the boot settings through my AV and disabled a couple of things.... :| did I break windows?

It might be time to do a repair installation of Windows to rescue stuff. how to do a repair installation of Windows and you want Method #2 there (it's about 3/4 of the way down the page).

This should get you operational enough to rescue stuff and save it onto an external drive or DVDs. Once you've got your stuff backed up, then you can nuke your existing Windows installation completely and start from scratch.

To completely remove the existing Windows installation, one method would be to run Windows Setup by booting from the Windows CD, use Windows Setup to delete all existing partitions on the hard drive, then press the F3 key twice to exit from Windows Setup. After that, start Windows Setup a second time, create a partition, quick-format it with NTFS, and keep going.

When reinstalling Windows, you want firewall protection. If you scroll halfway down this page, there's instructions on how to keep network worms from infecting the system when it's freshly installed and vulnerable to attack.

Good luck, and if you can burn the F-Secure Rescue CD and run it before doing your backup, it's less likely that your backup will contain malware.

Sometimes it is just best to format, and reload my friend.. We've all fought this battle before.. Sometimes it's best to throw in the towel.
