Have to unplug modem with Dual Boot

Is there any way around this ? I have to unplug my modem whenever I boot into Vista after using XP and vice versa. I assume it's for my ISP to get the different MAC address or something that the OS assigns to the NIC. This is quite tiring to have to do constantly every time I want to switch between OS's.

your MAC is on the ROM of the NIC, not in the OS....I have not seen where you have to reboot a modem to get a new IP.

Best idea is to just get a router, as the added security is worth the $20-$40 you spend on it.

Do you have any recommendations for inexpensive routers that also have built in firewalls? I was looking earlier in the week after a hacking attack but the ones I saw were $120+

I'm not aware of any router that DOESN'T have a built in firewall.

Some modems will pay attention to the hostname/domain of your machine. set it the same in both. You could also try obtaining an IP in one OS then hard setting the same in the other.
