Have to share this awesome trick (Wine drinkers)

Not really planning to try this trick for opening the bottle but I was interested to see his foil removal method. Googling it, it appears as if people claim it works pretty well. Maybe ATOT knew about this move already but it's news to me. My wife always rolls her eyes when I use a serrated knife to cut around the top of the bottle to remove foil.
 
That won't work with wine because wine corks are completely internal to the bottle. You're thinking champagne.
Step 1) Wash the outside of the bottle.
Step 2) Prepare a suitable 10-micron filtration system.
Step 3) Crush wine bottle with a sword.
Step 4) Filter wine for consumption via aforementioned 10-micron filter.
Step 5) ???
Step 6) Profit!
 
"The Rabbit" (the wine opener, not the woman's pleasure device) has been a life saver for me for opening wine.

I'm not a wine expert, but aren't you supposed to avoid having the wine contact the bottom of the cork if possible?

Otherwise, the cork will dry out enough to allow impurities into your bottle.

This is why fancy pants people will check the cork when ordering a bottle at a restaurant, or the cork is simply handed to them. They just want to see that it was properly stored (wet bottom). If you're paying 30 to 500 to $1k per bottle, you want to make sure that the bottle isn't spoiled.

I would not do that with a "nice bottle of wine" as he put it. At least not a red, and since we previously used the phrase "nice bottle of wine" we're not talking about a white. Might as well shake the damn thing to mix all the sediment up. Yuck.

Most nice bottles should be decanted anyways. I usually allow a nice red wine to open up in a wide bottom decanter for 15 minutes or so. Then again, I edc a wine decorker 😛

You're supposed to hit the flange at the top of the bottle, not the cork. Stress riser+brittle glass=clean(ish) break. It's more impressive with champagne, sure, but it works with both.

The thing about champagne is that it fizzes out when you open it, and when it fizzes out it takes all the little shards of glass out as well.
If you do it with still wine be prepared for some unexpected extras in your drink.
 
I'm pretty sure I've seen it with wine. I could be wrong though. In South Africa there was Captain Badass at a winery who simply took a sword and cut off the whole top of the bottle. Don't try that at home.
