Hey Guys, When I turn on CP It runs thru checking CD Player, Floppy, Zip Drive, Etc. but won't beep or display on screen until I hit reset. Then it boots up normal. Changed PSU but that didn't do it. Any suggestions on what to check next? This machine is a few years old & still running W98se. Haven't had any issues til now. Use it at work with Quickbooks. Biostar M7MIA, Antec 350, Athlon 1.33, Crucial Ram, Geforce 2, CD Rom, CD R/W, Zip 750 drive. Thanks, Ted

Are you reffering to the BIOS screen or the Win98 SPLASH screen?

Do you have a DISK in the ZIP drive when BOOTING?

When you hit reset is it RESETTING the PC?

Mine used to do that when it needed defragging

If defragging doesn't do anything then
I would try clearing the BIOS, then reset BIOS to default settings....

Machine's been defragged. Yes, bios screen(nothing appears). No, I have noyhing in any drive(Zip,etc.)Yes, I hit reset and it boots right up. However when I got to the shop today it had started for my wife in safe mode after reset. I looked in Device Mgr. & USB Hub said it didn't recognize what was on it so I disconnected my Scanner USB cable & it seems to be fine. Does this make sense? Thanks, Ted I appreciate your replies.

Yes. It makes sense.

Windows 98 does have issues with USB devices.

You may want to make sure that you have the latest BIOS update for you PC as
in many cases manufacturers updated the USB Hub firmware.

Still must reset to get it to run, Seems to do this in a.m. from cold boot only. Still checking a few things but any more ideas will be appreciated. Wife turns lots of things on all at once in that corner evey morning. Thinking I might not have the electricity to boot up all the stuff(a little far fetched but I'll check it). I'm gonna reseat the ram and video card too. It's run for a couple years without acting up (USB wise). I've done maint. on it but it's been good. It will also restart without a hitch. Some one out there knows this one. Please give advice. Thanks, Ted

Hmm. That used to happen to me on old K6/2 systems. I replaced the power supply and all the problems went away. But I guess this doesn't help you if you've already tried that...
