The K6 III 450+ is proven to operate on my MB version. Am I correct that the only need to flash the bios is to get the bios to present the new chip specs on startup, otherwise the chip would run fine w/o a flash. I only ask this because I'm inexperienced with flashing, and would like to get a chip up and going til I learn same. Til I do, assume I could rely on WCPUID to give me chip specs and speeds. Make any sense at all. Thanks for your input!

It depends on what BIOS version you already have...you may find that it will work just as it is now. You can get the newest version of the BIOS for the VA503+ (JE439) from this link:JE439 BIOS page

I have read where several bios may or may not read this chip properly. The bios that properly identifies the K63+ is JE4330. I just did this myself recently with no experience. I just followed the instructions given by FIC. You can find JE4330 at the bottom of this page. If you need more info check out amdzone.com/fouums There is a lot of advise there on the 503+ . Hope this has helped.

The system won't boot at all without the updated bios. At least mine wouldn't, VA503+ and PA2013. Flash with the old cpu, shut down, install K6-3+, set jumpers and fire it up. As far as flashing, format a floppy disk with system files only. I then delete drvspace.bin, and add the flash program and the bin file. Simple operation. Also, its a good idea to save your old bios when it ask you to.
