Have to drive the folks to JFK tomorrow and come back through Manhattan

Parents leaving to Australia for a week or so and I have to drive them to JFK airport in Long Island. Going in Im taking 278 and the Belt Parkway. But to avoid obnoxiously high tolls at the Verezano Bridge I am going to drive through Williamsburng Bridge and CHINATOWN.

I'm getting pshyced and readying myself for the crazy New Yorkers and their "road hospitality".

Oy...

meh...not as bad as you think.

I-285 around Atlanta is worse..or perhaps some areas around Orlando in the dense traffic light areas.

Na, all my experiences with my parents driving through manhattan was the crazy cab drivers that don't give a damn about paint and uses their bumpers for doing the namesake. I can always tell when I'm in New York by the "kind" gestures they make at people on the road.

Ayup...the cab drivers are the ones to keep an eye on. Esp. the ones that turn left from 3 lanes over!

technially, it is long island.

go from route 278 east
right after you passed route 27(ocean parkway), bear LEFT, or you will be on your way to pay 9 bucks passing the bridge to staten island. then you will be on belt parkway.

JFK is exist 18, you will find the airport.

cheers

New York is the best city to drive in. Read Anand's blog post about it. It might be crazy but it's a crazy flow and it works. Not many accidents in NYC.

Yes JFK is Queens but I live in New Jersey thus I must go through manhattan.

take the bridge, it is $6 for entering from NJ.(holland tunnel and lincole tunnel charge you the same amount). your best bet is leaving from holland tunnel or lincole tunnel, which is free.

Oh quit whining, it's not that bad. 🙂

I'd take driving in Manhattan any day over driving in Boston, LA, DC or New Orleans!
