Have to dial up TWICE in order to move packets in XP???

This problem will likely kill me.

I have an IBM Thinkpad with on board 10/1000 Intel NIC and Intel Wireless NIC. It also has a Connexant modem.

Old laptop with Intel 10/100 and Linksys PCMCIA card and Agere modem had same problem.

Problem only exists in XP. 2000 and below are fine.

When I connect to the LAN via RJ45, I connect without issue.

When I connect via wireless, I have to use a static IP address and I have to usually change the IP address on a cold boot or after the PC goes to sleep or suspend or I'll lose my connection.

Also, when I try to use dial up, I have to dial up twice in order to move any network traffic. I'll dial up, connect and I'll even obtain an IP address from the dial up server, but I can't send or receive any data. If I disconnect and redial, I connect and can move data. This happens with EVERY dial up connection. Both ISP's and dialing into the Avaya PBX systems I maintain.

This is very irritating. It's obviously a TCP/IP issue with XP, but how do I resolve it??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think I found the solution to my error, although I cant try till I get home...
Are you on SP2? If not, you should install it. Apparently they fix some issues with wireless networks.
