Have to be 25 to go in some bars???

maybe they don't like people under 25? My dad owns a bar, he doesn't really like it when young people show up. Young people = trouble, fake ID's, more rowdy, etc.

They are probably trying to reduce their exposure to underage drinking infractions. They must estimate that people with fake ID's are more likely to set the age to 21-23, not 25.

But I bet the 21-25 year olds drink the most equating to more revenue

Some places don't want that kind of business, i.e. drunken rowdiness.....

Because it's their choice as a private establishment.

Isn't that discrimination though? The law states 21, not 25, therefore they're discriminating against younger people.

Well, with a private establishment, they can kinda discriminate on some things. I just don't know why they would want to. I do have to admit that the underage "21" year olds and the partiers makes sense though.

I wish more places in Baton Rouge would do this. I hate going ANYWHERE because of these LSU jock/prep tards....

You have to be 25 to rent a car from most major rental companies. Bar or car rental, it's a private company. They can do whatever they want as long as they're not in conflict with the law such as letting 17 year olds in.

I don't think discrimination laws apply in this case.
They are mostly geared toward employment, housing and public accomodations.

haha...BR bars are such a joke. I used to go visit my friend at Southern Law before he transferred to Loyola. There was like one bar downtown (Red Star?) with no one in it, and everything else was either a dive or a place the size (and smell) of a barn and packed to the gills. I pitied the state of nightlife there, but it was fun as hell to go out to those places and just not give a fsck. I did it once or twice, but would go nuts if those were my only options every weekend. No wonder he'd come back to NO almost every weekend.

Are all-boy or all-girl schools considered discrimination on basis of gender?

There are bars like that down here...usually with attractions like free Boxing or sports or pool tables etc.

The younger (21-24) crowd comes in to play and not drink or eat.

I don't get the younger crowd coming to a bar and drinking water.

Reason #2 I don't go out 😉

Young customers might equal more revenue in the short run, but it also might drive away the older customes who you know will be coming back the next day. My dad likes to keep it small and simple, he's not looking to turn his bar into the hottest spot in town.

If you're a teenager, you know how easy it is to obtain pretty convincing ID's and whatnot, I don't blame anyone for wanting to elimate that all together. Some places say "we ID all under 30" while others say "no one under 30". Same form of "discrimination" if that's what you want to call it
