Have to be 21 to buy cigars online?

I am trying to buy some cigars online. If you enter a D.O.B. less than 21, it won't let you process the order. Do you have to be over 21 to purchase tobacco products online or something? Is this just some wacky store policy?

If I were to say I was 21, could they somehow check my age against my credit card number or is this just some stupid check that they don't ever use, but require you to enter?

As far as I know, you only need to be 18, although it can be the policy of the particular company you are ordering from to raise the limit to 21. Honestly, I've bought cigars online before, and it's usually not a problem, and some places don't even ask for age, since most people probably assume cigar smoking is most common in older people.

Should only have to be 18. By the way, have you checked out Bogie's Stogies down in Lafayette?

I'll have to check that out. My roommate and I were trying to score a deal w/ a humidor with some crappy cigars just to get a place to put them and then we could get some nicer stuff. I'll have to go check and see if their prices are comparable to the ones we found online. Thanks for the idea.

So lets say we said we were 21, though we are already 19, over the age of 18 and legal to buy them anyways. They somehow try to verify it and find out we aren't 21, could they call us on fraud of some kind? or do you think that they would just cancel the order?
