Have TMobile Unlimited? Turn off Binge On

Binge On allows you to watch videos in 480p for selected apps. It's on by default even if you have unlimited.

It was turned on automatically for me even though I was an unlimited user. Instantly, I wasn't able to stream Twitch at its highest quality even though Twitch wasn't part of the selected apps. The stream gets stuck in infinite load.

If you have unlimited data like I do, there's no reason to have Binge On turned on. It's a shame that TMobile decided to pull a fast one for unlimited users.

Also, Youtube is accusing TMobile of throttling ALL video data even if the app doesn't participate. And TMobile turned it on automatically for unlimited users.

This is pure BS from TMobile.

It's a big bonus for some. My 3 year old doesn't care if it's 480p. Since we all have the ability to turn it off I see no issue here. Pretty well known how it works.

Have data limits people bitch. Don't charge for going over data caps like other carriers people bitch. Have unlimited if it's music or 480p video people complain. Can never please everyone.

How do you turn it off? Is it under account settings?
Yes, login to my T-Mobile. Then, under My Current Plan, select Change plan or services. Unselect Binge On

It's a bonus for you because you don't have unlimited. D: TMobile pulled a fast one on unlimited users.

FYI, just got this from T-Mobile:

To check Binge On status, dial #264#
To Turn off, dial #263#
To Turn on, dial #266#
Your request may take up to two minutes. After you make any changes to your Binge On status, simply start (or restart) your video stream.

I'm sorry, but who watches HBO on a smartphone? I don't get the appeal. I have a 1GB plan, and I rarely use half that a month. For me, data is for getting to the web when I can't connect wirelessly, not for streaming video from sources I'd much rather watch on my TV, or on a tablet at the very least. Am I missing something?

Obviously this is not for doing a 'Game of Thrones binge of the night', but more like killing time waiting at the clinic/DMV/grocery store, etc. Some people play puzzle games, browse ATOT or Reddit, etc. but some may choose to watch a show or part of a show, and this is really handy for that.

I watched almost every episode of The Wire on my smartphone, the rest on a tablet. Every lunch break and public transportation ride I would take out my phone and watch. When you factor in that a smart phone is much closer to your eyes than a TV at home, the size is actually comparable.

Binge On has finally convinced me to give up unlimited data. Saves me $30/month, which is great.

The phone is closer to your face BECAUSE the screen sizes are NOT comparable.

If they were comparable, the quality gap between 480p and 1080p would be intolerable. But because the screen sizes are different, you can lose a lot of HD detail and still have an okay picture.

I'm personally not a fan of how BingeOn was implemented, or how T-Mobile talks about it. I honestly think Verizon's latest stunt with their video service is specifically to get BingeOn shut down.

They aren't comparable when placed at the same distance. My response was aimed at the poster who said why would you watch on a phone instead of TV, which seems to ignore that you don't watch a phone from across the room like you do a TV.

And I'm saying they're not comparable, period. Thought I was pretty clear on that.

That's why the video can be 480p and most people won't care or even notice.
