Yeah. I have 2x 7950GT in SLI right now (well, I'm getting the second card in the mail in a few days). I need a cheap video card solution for my second 19" Samsung 941BW just to run web applications and music and such. My primary monitor will run off the SLI config for gaming, rendering, and such.

Will a cheap 7100GS suffice for just web-browsing and a possible video here and there? Or will it steal my RAM and skip frames?

Also, how does 2x 7950GT's in SLI compare to a single 8800GTS 640MB or 2x 8600GTS in SLI?

Unless you have some modded driver files, last I checked you couldn't do that.

in the 680i instruction booklet, it shows 2 graphics cards in SLI with a 3rd between them.

I would think it would work, it should just treat it as a third card. There was someone that put 4 cards in the Asus 975 workstation board for an 8 monitor setup. Just not sure about the SLI part, haven't tried that config before. Why not leave SLI disabled for 2 monitor viewing and then enable it when you need it?

If you want to do rendering one one monitor and still be able to work on another, the "best" solution is Quadros with SLI multiview.
