Have SLI / CrossFire/X connectors changed over the years?

I've got a couple left over from buying motherboards or graphics cards in the past, and I'm wondering if there's any point in keeping them, and/or perhaps there's been a change to the connectors somewhere along the lines and keeping old ones is pointless.

I've never done SLI/CF before but I suppose there's always a vague possibility.

SLI connectors have not changed. Crossfire connectors are no longer needed any more.

Thanks.

One further question, on a cable that isn't explicitly labelled as being one or the other, is there a way to tell (apart from the 'try it and see' way)?

Hold it up next to a known bridge like a CF/SLI, the lines/traces should be similar(either or).

Ah, I just found an old CrossFire cable; the inside of that connector looks about 1.3cm whereas the inside of the SLI connector is about 1cm.
