i just purchased a P4 1.6 Ghz chip at a great deal 100 $ got it from a friend that needed cash badly, any ways
i want to build my self a new box but ive always used Athlon chips and im not too familar with what chipset are best or what RAM
i should use with this setup RAMBUS, or DDR? and what setup would give me the best performance. i just want some advice on which
boards you would use or are currently using. any downsides on the two types of memory. cost really isnt an issue but i rather get more "bang for my
buck"

ASUS P4B266, i845 DDR SDRAM, does very well at overclocking.

ASUS P4T-E, i850, RDRAM, can use 133MHz FSB, probably more future proof.

ASUS P4S333, SiS 645 DDR SDRAM, best performance out of the box, but doesn't overclock well.

HA disagree on those

Gigabyte 8IRXP is the best all featured mobo for the 478 platform DDR

all ASUS is now is a name thats it nothing more why else did Anandtech not review them and gave the 8IRXP the gold award

Now wait a minute Strawberrymom,

I'm not cheerleading for Asus, but the reason Anandtech didn't review the Asus mobo was because it
had not been released at the time of the roundup. This was stated explicitly at the beginning of the
review.

This is a direct quote from the Anandtech review

A few manufacturers weren't even ready for this roundup including ASUS and Shuttle among others who we all hope to include in a later update.

I overclocked my Soundblaster Live.........Now everything sounds like chipmunks singing to
Gypsy music.
