Have NuForce uDac2...can I remove X-Fi?

Just purchased and set up my brand new M-Audio AV40 speakers and NuForce Icon uDAC2 to my PC. Everything working quite well and music sound quality is much better.

For music listening when wife is home, I connect my Grado SR80 headphones to the DAC, and make the DAC the default for my sound. But, I can't get my USB Logitech mic to work in TeamSpeak when my son and I want to play BBC2 and CODBO. I can hear others talking to me, but can't get mic to work.

Should I try this... now that I have the DAC, I don't need the Creative X-Fi 'Music' sound card. So, possibly if I remove it and un-install all the Creative Labs bloatware/software, might that make it easier for the mic to get recognized?

You didn't say how much toying around you might have done in the audio control panel. Sounds like your X-Fi is still the default recording device. If you have not already, see if your USB mic is showing up in the sound control panel (probably need to click the recording tab), and if so, right click on it and select it to be default. The X-Fi theortically should not block another device from showing up. If the USB mic is not showing up, then it sounds like the drivers for this device are not loaded. I hope this helps.

I physically removed the X-Fi and all it's bloated software, re-booted, and connected the USB Logitech mic.... for some reason it does NOT appear in the sound control panel under any tab... weird.... Same situation when the X-Fi was installed before as well.

Since X-Fi and the USB mic don't use the same mechanisms for the audio, that wouldn't have been my guess that the card was the problem. And Logitech only makes one microphone that uses USB and it doesn't have drivers even in Windows 9x, it should work natively.

Have you tried the mic on another USB port and/or another computer?
