Ok I could use some help. I have sound forge 8 installed on my computer right. Lets say I wanted to record something off the net as far as video's is concerned. If I try to record while a browser is open, my system lags up horribly

I mean to the point it freezes then unfreezes but the mouse moves at a snails pace and isn't smooth, looking choppy in slow motion or something.

the sound even goes like "brrrrrrr" then will change to "dddddddddd" then "prrrrrrr". VERY rarely it will lock up my system and reboot my machine.

I have had this problem for a long time now and theres no way for me to even begin pinpointing it becuase I can't know if its software or hardware.

My system specs:

Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: VIAK8T
System Model: AWRDACPI
BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2GHz
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Page File: 501MB used, 3437MB available
Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode

Soundcard: SB Audigy 2 Audio [D400]

Type: WDM

try updating the sound blaster card's drivers to the latest from the creative's website. what video card is this the Gforce 6800 256 GT? try the latest video card drivers too. i'm thinking its most likely going to be a driver issue. does the problem only occur when doing video recording?

under the windows, minidump directory, are there dump files from when the pc did lock up and reboot? we can use those to find out whats causing it by using windows debugger.

this problem happened from day 1 when you installed sound forge 8? are there updates to download for it?

only happens if you have an internet explorer window open? what if you downloading the video to your pc, then worked on it without doing the record while you download?

sound card drivers are updated, can't update the nvidia drivers due to the latest nvidia drivers being really bad. I have ones before they changed the interface and made changes that produced more problems than the patch fixed.

Anyway as far as videos are concerned i'm not 100% sure. It seems to occur regardless. If I have the video in the foreground, background or minimized.

As far as the file dumps, the only thing i"ve check are the event files under the windows event viewer, which shows nothing out of the ordinary.

It happened ever since I upgrade my sound card and went from sound forge 7 to 8. I have not checked for updates on sound forge 8.

try your original sound card under sound forge 8, event viewer is weak compared to using windows debugger to check dumpfiles when a system actually crashes with a blue screen. chances are your pc is set to automatically restart on error, so a blue screen shows really quick and it restarts. if you bought sound forge 8 recently, if it has free support for it, i would actually call them after you try a different sound card. you can always try sound forge 7 again to really isolate if its the version 8 that contains the problem or exposes it.

I have used Sound Forge and others - but I found polderbits about a year and a half ago - and it really is great - especially for recording from the web (I use my XM radio connection).

I think you can try it free.
