Have I turned into a grumpy old man or is this a legitimate complaint?

I had some new neighbors move in a few months ago. They seem to be the house that everyone drops their kids off at to hang out. Every weekend, from sunrise to sunset, there are 5-20 kids and teenagers in front of their house playing basketball, riding bikes up and down the sidewalk, etc. Basically, there is a mob of screaming kids in front of my house all day long every single weekend.

What can I really do about it? It's obviously ridiculous to complain about kids playing outside. It's obnoxious enough that I am seriously considering moving. I can tolerate the occasional screaming kids, lawn mowers, chain saws, etc, but having it be constant is quite unpleasant.

Noise is irritating. I named my next door neighbors the McLouds, though they've been better the last couple years. Helps make up for the fuckton of cars they have, and their minor encroachments on my property. Whatcha gonna do? There's too many people, so you gotta deal with them. You always have death to look forward to. Quiet at last!

its irritating and i understand how some people could not like it. I personally don't mind hearing kids outside.

Though i do agree there has to be a limit on what time at night. My kids are inside when the sun goes down.

Totally Zen.

Start walking outside on your lawn with just your bath robe and let the breeze expose your giblets at times.

Nothing like having a old man doing that to keep the kids away. ;)

Beats having prick neighbors who are college-aged or 30-ish who park their damn cars on your lawn. I'll take the bikes...

My neighbors have kids less than 5 years old. One really likes to scream a lot and cry. I feel bad for them though, it's potential domestic incident on my side every god damn day.

That is why living up high in a flat is great. The higher, the less noise. If you cannot afford a few acres of land like me, a flat is the way to go. Of course reasonable neighbors with a job helps. They work, they like peace and quiet as well. Ocassional party in the weekends in the evening is not an issue.

1. take random realtor/campaign sign
2. flip over and write "REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER"
3. put in front yard (yours or neighbor, your choice)

That is an unfortunate situation that I identify with. Check this out.

Better explanation: http://www.movingsoundtech.com/

In our case the evil minions were drawn by a basketball hoop which mysteriously was dismantled by a group of frustrated neighbors in the middle of the night. Old people 1 evil minions 0.

I sometimes feel I'm turning into a grumpy old man too, I get so annoyed at the convoy of vehicles that line my street every day at 3:00pm sharp. The ordeal lasts a good 15-30 minutes and makes it impossible to leave if I have to. It's all the parents picking up their kids from school. I guess they never heard of school buses.

Then in summer there's my back yard neighbour, he has loud music playing non stop. Normally that does not bug me, but it's every single day and is so loud that from my room it sounds like loud muffling, and it makes it hard to fall asleep. If he does that again this summer I might mess with him, it's the radio, so it would be easy to just transmit random data lol. Random allahu akbars lol.

Somebody i knew had the same issue, a neighbor playing music but cd and not fm radio. Since he is also an electronic hobbyist, i adviced him to find out how a cellphone causes the bidibeep sounds in radios and television sets. I think a 500 to 900 MHz am modulated oscillator with a 15 watt output and a directional antenna might work. 868Mhz modules are cheap and only the powerstage is tricky.

See a grumpy old man would tell the kids to stop playing with their damn smartphones and go outside to play.

I recommend noise canceling speakers. You'd probably need at least a thousand watts and several speakers but just think of the joy of looking outside and having the kids frantically moving their mouths and not hearing anything. Hehehe. :sneaky:

I'm don't mind hearing little kids running around. It's the teenagers playing basketball and shouting at the top of their lungs that bothers me. That noise penetrates every room of my house and yard.

Is this a relatively recent development? If so it's probably just standing out due to novelty. Kids get bored, they'll move on and do other things, not to mention that in what will seem like a short time to you they will all be 50% older and into other things. And you will become more used to the occasional brouhaha. If you like the neighborhood otherwise I would just chill and give it some time.

Grab said ball and dunk over them and yell owned after and just don't let them see you hobble back to your house after you break your hip doing it. ;)
