I booted my PC up and noticed the CPU temp in windows was around 55c idle on my northwood, normally it's around 37-38c. I then went to reboot and the PC speaker alarm started to sound because it has gone over it's 65c warning set in the bios. I went in the bios and saw it go to 70c so I switched it off.

I use the Thermaltake bigwater watercooling kit and I'm yet to check if the pump has gone on it.

Today I went to check the cpu temp in the bios again and it got to around 50c so I rebooted and triEd to go to windows, it wouldn't go past the bios, error came up, CPU ERROR CHECK SOFTMENU SETTINGS. I did have it over clocked now the settings are set at default.

I've fried my CPU hey???

from what i have read, intels do a better job at cutting themselves down if they get too hot, but try the original retail hsf or buy a xp90 w/ panaflow 92mm fan.

also, is that 3.4 stock speed or is it a o/ced 2.8/3.0c?

Given that your system can still power on, I doubt you "fried" your CPU in terms of causing any damage to it. If you had the most likely result is that the system would not even be able to power on. I would recommend trying a CMOS clear and running at stock settings and see if that helps (and then re-overclock if everything seems okay).
