Question Have I Boxed Myself In with My Memory?

I snagged what I thought was an amazing deal for some Corsair Dominator Platinum RAM 16GB@3600 18-19-19-39 CMT16GX4M2C3600C18 of $90 on a reddit thread. I want to move to 32GB but the cost to add that extra RAM is again, in my opinion, dumb.

Should I sell these for at least what I have in them? Is there a comparable kit that won't cost me $300? Yes, I would prefer they have RGB, it makes it faster after all.

Seems like those sticks are $99 on NewEgg if I saw the correct matching RAM. That would get you filled up on all channels to 32Gb.

The alternative is, if you sold that RAM, and got new RAM, it would be at least $200 if not significantly more for similar or better. So the real question is, what sort of performance gain are you expecting with this purchase and in what context? If it's games, it would seem you would be better off putting that budget into a new GPU.

Very best,

Seems more like one of those tough personal choices. You are captain of the ship.
Just a matter of how much you want to spend and what you want.

Very best,

The kit runs $150 on New Egg.

Ive gotten in to more 3D modeling so the additional capacity would help really. Just seeking experience overall.

That's true, I just can't find that kit for retail it's always inflated 😂

So for that, the real question becomes.... what is going to enhance your system's performance in your 3D modeling software (and have you looked at your resource monitor to see if you ever saturate the 16Gb you have?) between CPU, GPU (if it's accelerated) and/or system memory.

Very best,

I have always found ram speed upgrades to be a bit ... meh. A few percent if your lucky.

Ram capacity upgrades on the other hand are great.

Thank you, yes this would be capacity. The Dom Plats run 3600 as expected. Have never bothered OCing them.

I got mine on sale for about $30 less than the current list price on NewEgg, but it's still a good price and I have been VERY pleased with the results of this RAM kit. And it's also CL16 instead of CL18.

No annoying LEDs, but I consider that a significant bonus...
