Hi, I'm 33 years old, and I've been in school almost non-stop since the age of 5. I have a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in computer engineering. I have a really nice job, but in my spare time, I've been attending a junior college to get an A.A. in fine arts. Does this mean I've been in school too long?

I would say its a good thing as long as you can stand it and you like going to school.

as long as you arent one of those (seemingly obligatory) annoying old people that sucks up to the prof and talks about their life all time, don't worry about it. If you are "that guy" then please stop taking classes.

Plenty of prof's in large university systems that never end being a student since they can get free tuition waivers for life.

Yah, thanks for all the replies. I really like learning; for me, a week without learning something new is like a minute without oxygen. Case in point: last semester at my JC I took an introductory math class called "finite math," which was well below the two years of calculus and differential equations I had in college. I ended up learning about finance, how to calculate my mortgage payments, and how to work markov chains. That's some good ****** right there, man. Now that I can take classes for fun and not care about grades, I've found I'm enjoying learning much more, and ironically, my grades have been perfect at my JC (I have a 4.0 GPA at my JC and have been invited to join the national JC honour society, lol).

Meh, at least you have a job. If you were 33 and still haven't begun on your career I would say that at some point the time and money invested in your education will not increase your worth enough to justify the investment.

Knowledge is useless unless you can apply it to something, IMO.

Your life, though. Do whatever it is that you want.

Well, I've asked complete strangers about what's the best extra-strength hemorrhoid cream, so why not ask about school? Feel free to get back to me once you're 33 and have a Ph.D.

I see no problem with it at all, however I will be glad to stop after getting my J.D. Perhaps later on in life I will pursue formal education in some other area, quantum physics is something I'd like to do for fun.

Nothing wrong with it no, as long as it's what you want to do. I on the other hand, am looking forward to getting this damn Ph.D. done.
