thanks for all the replies. I am running a DSL connection with a dlink router. I do not have a dialup modem installed. i keep trying things mentioned here. no virus detection. before this started happening i always have been runing avast! home edition.
How about out the dlink model #??
And why dont you get rid of "Url etc." stuff in your image link thats ruining the format of this thread. You only need to post the link text as long as it has http:// and it will hyperlink
Note: The following are thought starters - not conclusions.
SOMETHING on your PC is trying to connect via dial-up to the internet, and is not set up to deal with a router. You have not said if you were EVER error free with FF - no extensions?
Or is this just came out of nowhere?
A. I assume because you uninstalled/reinstalled FF, you did NOT reinstall extensions?
B. I am still unclear - it now even happens with IE - no FF install??
C. What version of FF are you installing? (1.508 is bug free - 2.01 is latest)
D. SOME FF extensions employ ACTIVEX controls which may help hackers to load something, like telephony. Or perhaps some old game or software is trying to update.
E. You need to go to processes in adaware selection and see each and every process running and google it (or processfinder software) The XP one sucks.
F. You will need to try a system rollback of >30 days, since I assume it didnt happen before that?
G.You will need to do a HiJackThis scan
H. Some setting in WINDOWS/control panel/network may have changed. There should be no dialup connection, and never dial a connection should be checked and everything in internet config on your adapter in cntrl panel should be set on auto.
I. While a router is good for security. when actually scanning for trojans, you need something like Kaspersky, NOD32 or Grisoft AVG. I believe the AVG lite is still free, and Kaspersky lite from AOL free is in HotDeals.
J. While I have never used zonealarm in conjunction with a router, if you installed it and you did not disable notifications, it would tell you very quickly which program was trying to access the internet, dial up or otherwise, one by one as they appeared.
lAs an afterthought, some IP's allow switching to dial up (phone line) when the DSL is down
