Have DVD+RW drive, what media to use?

I'm still learning all the different formats and lack of standards for burning DVDs so bear with me. I have recently installed a DVD+RW drive on my machine, so what DVDs do I need to purchase to be able to use it: DVD+Rs and/or DVD+RWs? What software to use? For right now, I'm trying to be able to burn avi's/mpg's/mov's from computer to be able to be played on a home DVD player.

I'd grab a few RWs to play around with first until you get the hang of DVD authoring and get a feel for the software you're using before you waste any DVD+R blanks in the process of experimentation. Fuji sells a combo pack that has four DVD+R disks along with a DVD+RW disk for a pretty reasonable price (OfficeMax has it on sale pretty often).

If you have some packet-writing software like InCD or Roxio's Drag-to-Disc, I'd also reccomend getting at least one more DVD+RW disk that you can format for use with the packet writing software, so you have a nice 4 GB of space to backup your critical info just in case your hard drive goes bad on you all of a sudden one day.

I'd also recommend getting at least one DVD+RW to play around with so you don't waste the +Rs. The spindle of Memorex +Rs I have seems to be good stuff.

Which drive? I ask as when you say DVD+RW drive, the HP 100 series drive was only DVD+RW. That would limit your choices to only DVD+RW at 2.4x speed.

Cool on the D28. Bob4432's recommendation on DVDRHelp is seconded. One of the best sites for about anything you want to know. It will also link you to Doom9 which has more things that some folks think you should not know. 😉
