Have curse words lost their effect on you ?

I see / hear "fvck" and the rest of them daily, they don't seem to have any effect, I don't find them offensive or powerful.

I don't find it offensive, but hearing women swear is a big turnoff...even though I have a toilet tounge myself 🙂

Nope. When I worked at HD, everyone swore. The customers, the managers, the employees, the customers kids, etc.

I love when people just substitute words... like "This job freakin' sucks." Come on... The symantec of the word is "fvck", so just say it... You mean the same thing. Why is actually saying it and different then using it's same meaning?

There are not kids around, so I swear a lot more often then I would like, but try to be careful in mixed company.

I slipped up the other day, when I took my daughter to see her father, his wife and her kid. He is like 2 1/2 yrs old and I slipped and said "holy fvck' and for the next 5 solid minutes this little kid was running thru the house, yelling "holyfvckholyfvckholyfvck".

I've got a 21 month old and I was watching the Rose Bowl and yelled something about some "goddamn" player.

Of course out of the whole sentence I said she chose to repeat goddamn about 40 times straight.

To the OP, nope, swearing doesn't really have an effect on me any more, but ever since having a child I seem to be doing a whole lot less of it.

She was probably just trying it out for size and has forgotten about it by now...

....we hope.

If only the "BAN" word did have an effect on you though...
<sigh>

I used to be a potty mouth. Now I have extended my vocabulary to include more verbs, adverbs and adjectives. I find that those dirtly little words don't do justice to the angst over most of my experiences I encounter. Therefore, people that curse are usually those that are verbally and mentally lazy.

It's your native language (most of you) so do some exploring. There's more than the F word out there.

There is a time and place for cursing, i use them for emphasis unless i hit my finger with a hammer.

It's almost pointless saying them if they don't mean anything, I'm trying to get out of the habit, not because it's "bad", but because, as peopl eseem to agree, they don't mean anything.
If you repeat a phrase over and over it gets boring, I find it the same with swearing.

Quick, blame TV! 😉

The use of such words is an example on ones failure to communicate within the proper context of the language.

They are intended for shock value and in most/if not all cases have no actually relationship to the original intended meaning.

Pay attention toi actual professionals that have to communicate with people for a living. That type of language is not heard.

They never had an "effect" on me.

They are just words like anything else. If you are offended by them it's your choice to do so and, IMO, a dumb choice.

They really have lost their shock factor given the current state of cable television, movies and radio programming. It's not like the 50s where you wouldn't hear those words so commonly. Now, they are a dime a dozen and you can't go very long in a day without hearing at least some of them.
Personally, at work and at home around the kids I rarely use any curse words. With others whom I am comfortable with however, I may let loose a barrage of obscenities that would make a sailor blush, especially when I am working on a computer. Also, as another poster mentioned, women who curse excessively are a turn off.
