Have CD ROM drive speeds reached their max?

I've not seen any increase in CD ROM drive speeds in the last couple years. Has it maxed out in the 50's for single laser?
 
I beleive they have reached the physical limitations of the media. Could be wrong but most cd drives dont get above low 30's in read speed anyway.
 
I also agree with the limits of the media also, in the fact that it would take higher spindle speeds. I am sure it could be done, but not keep prices at certain cost points.
