What I'm trying to figure out is if I got a 7.1 sound card with optical audio in such as the Auzentech X-Plosion or HT Omega Striker if I would be able to connect my HD DVR optical audio out to the sound cards optical audio in and have it play real time on my PC speakers.
The reasoning behind this is right now I'm using the RCA red/white stereo connections on the DVR to my Hauppauge TV tuner card for audio and the video goes straight to my projector. I have mplayerc to open the audio device and play the stereo sound from the cable box. Ideally I'd like to have surround sound going to my Promedia 4.1s.
Probable? Possible? Any delay issues?
And yes I realize this is the opposite of what most people do which would be optical audio OUT to their HT receiver, which I currently don't have.
