I need to take the SAT II Math and Chemistry tests. I'll be a senior this year, I'll be taking AP BC Calculus and AP Chemistry. I took regular chemistry and honors Calculus A Topic as a junior.

I'm applying early admission for the college I plan on attending, and they highly recommend taking the SATII Math and Chemistry tests.

Have any of you taken them? How difficult/simple are they? I won't have much AP Chemistry/Calculus under my belt by the time I take them (I'll be taking the SATII in early october). THANKS!

Math is cake.. I got like a 780 on it, and I had gotten drunk the night before.

Didn't take chem, but I'm sure it sucks.

I did better on SAT II Chem than Math. I took the SAT II at the same time you are, so I had about the same amount of BC Calc. I had taken honors chem the year before. But for some reason even though I hate chem I'm quite good at it.

Can you remember what topics were covered on any of the tests? I did quite well in my junior year classes so perhaps I shouldn't sweat it, eh?

The math test is just cake.. Calc helps, but isn't absolutely necessary for any of the problems. You should be fine, as you have to be halfway intelligent to take BC in high school. I was one of only 3 people who have ever done that in my school.

Both are easy. I never studied got a 740 on both. Kinda Lousy, but I got into Princeton and Stanford. Don't put too much importance on then. (unless you are aiming for MIT or Caltech. Then you better get perfect 800's)

The Math Ic is harder than the IIc (well it covers more material) but I found it easier because I'd done the stuff more recently. The Ic covers basic trig and algebra and stuff. Just go and pick up an SAT II book (the one's from Barron's are good because they are 2x as hard as the real tests).

Great suggestion, blinder. I'll check it out at the Lib monday.

And F8tal, Im sure a 740 is lousy, seems like a good score.

Actually a 740 on the IIc (easier test, IIRC) would put you in the 60th or 70th percentile. You really need to do well on the test (780-800) to get in the high percentiles because it is easy. A 740 on the Ic would probably put you one or two percentiles higher than on the IIc.

The only other tip I can think of right now is to study well for either test. As you study you will realize they only ask about 7 different questions, the rest are similiar, just with different numbers.

Good Luck! :D

satii math requires no calculus. just remember your basic stuff. go to some library and browse through the problems. unless you suck at math... i took calcBC my junior year, and took satii math after that.

satii chem is easy, relative to the AP. i didnt take either cuz i dont do chem.

satii physics is also easy, extremely easy relative to physics C ap.

I think the chem test was just general chem questions. But I took it two years ago so I don't remember it very well.

Yeah. It was pretty easy. I think I lucked out and I didn't get a question about making up a lab. But overall it wasn't too bad. It's all the general stuff.

Math was easier. I remember something about beinga ble to skip one question and still get an 800 or something like that. I don't remember my mindset taking the test. It was a year ago.

you can skip/miss up to 7 questions or some insane number like that and still the an 800 on the IIc

The SAT II tests are pretty simple. Go buy a review book, do a few practice exams, review your other notes / homeworks from class, and you'll be in good shape.

I fairly studied for the SAT II Math and did decently (710, IIRC, w/out studying). 730 on the writing and I studied for that one from a prep book, which helped A LOT.

SAT IIC - 800
SAT Chem - 770

Chemistry is hard since if you miss even a few questions, you score drops quite a lot. I studied a lot for chemistry and still got screwed.

Math is a breeze, review your high school stuff, remember the questions are hard but require very easy logic.

Well i just returned from the library, browsed through the kaplan guide to the sat II math and chem...

My chem teacher sucked junior year... I know.. maybe... 25% of the material covered in the book (stupid teacher....). If I just study the "so-and-so guide to the sat ii chem" books, think I'll be able to cover the material on the test by october?

The math is really simple though.
