Have any of you hooked up a ps2 to a computer monitor?

I want to play through Xenosaga II and III, and maybe a few the xmen legends games, but don't have a tv. I have a 19" flatscreen with dvi and vga, though, so I was thinking of hooking up a psII to that. All I can find are boxes that cost ~$60. Any of you have experience doing this?

Iono, s-video?

My monitor has component and composites so never really a problem.

EDIT: You can probably pick up an all-in-wonder with inputs for less then 60.

Bad idea. There is too much delay. The AIW or other tuner cards tend to have a half second delay or so and it screws everything up. At least that has been my experience.

The 360 has a VGA adapter you can buy. Works awesome to get high resolutions.

Yeah, I know, but the ps2 is much cheaper and has a bunch of exclusive rpg's. I played through the first xenosaga and it was my favorite console rpg ever. It was like playing a well written anime movie. It has two sequels on the ps2 and I want to finish the series, plus a few other rpg's.

I can't do an all in one card because I only have a macbook and a dell laptop.

Anyone?

Just search for VGA TV Tuner.

I plan to get something like that so I can use a 19" LCD as a TV in my study.

Edit: one reviewer complained about the video inputs on that one

Yeah, that's the connectivity I'm looking for. It's weird, the first few reviews love that device and mention the ps2, but then it gets pretty grim.

For the MacBook, get the EyeTV 250. The new version is specifically designed for zero lag for playing games on:

Wow, that would be perfect if it wasn't $150 :(

There are other options that got better reviews, but they're more expensive. I've only looked on Newegg.

Let me know if you find something good... I don't really need a TV tuner per se, I just need to go from composite video to VGA like you, because I can use the tuner in my Tivo.

I'm thinking about getting this. The few reviews I've seen so far look good. It doesn't have a remote, so it might not fit your needs.

edit: whoops, amazon has some bad reviews :(

Is Xenosaga Real Time? If not the AIW or other Tuner card will be fine. Otherwise once you have a Tuner Card Dscaler helps reduce the lag but it will still be there.

My ATI Tuner was fine for Final Fantasy and Front Mission and a couple others but irked the heck outta me for Soul Calibur and Shadow Hearts. Espescially Shadow Hearts.

Damn Rings.

I use a WinTV-Go Plus, chosen specifically for its lack of hardware MPEG2 encoding. there is no perceivable delay on it.

on a related note, If you like Xenosaga, you should try Xenogears . I'm still in the process of finishing Xenosaga I so I can go on to II and III!

You might be better off searching for the cheapest color TV you can find. I've tried hooking up my PS2 to my LCD through a variety of connections and it always looks like crap.

No, it is pretty close to ff in its gameplay mechanics, but I also want to play the x-men legends series, which is action and would probably suck with lag.

I don't have a desktop, so that card isn't an option. I've heard of xenogears. How does it compare to xenosaga?

Yeah, I've worried about that possibility. I do have a 17" crt lying around, and it would be a better fit for my room than a 19" or higher color tv. :/

If I were to pick a favorite RPG, that would probably be it. I would say it's better than Xenosaga (of what I've seen so far anyway) except for the outdated graphics. Of course XS II+III may change my mind.

anyway I believe the same people created both Xenogears and Xenosaga

I hooked mine up to a 50" plasma and I think it looks like crap. Screen rez is too high.
