Have any of you ever lost important data and never got it back?

I formatted and lost well over a year's worth of e-mail that I thought I had backed up. I'm very sad.

I take that back, I found a recent back up from September of 04.

yeah...i reformatted my htpc not too long ago and lost a bunch of music i had on there...i thought i had transferred them to my server but didnt...lost 13 gigs of music 🙁

yeah sorry I'm a little testy tonight. I'm job hunting tomorrow. Too bad it was an apple. I can help you on a pc. I've lost tons of data and recovered it with little problem.

No it was a PC that I lost the data on. I was exporting the data to a .pst file and I closed everything down before it had saved the entire data. I tried saving it with a bunch of different programs. I've given up. At least I found that back up from September. ::Furiously Beats on my whatever meter::

I few years back, I lost a crapload of movies, music videos, and televisions shows when I reformatted and assumed I had them backed up elsewhere. but oh well; stealing is bad.

Ever try anything from R-Studio? I have had the best luck with them.

Now I have industrial-grade recovery software..takes ages to work, but worth it.

Once my hard drive crapped up on me and I couldnt get it to boot at all. I used a software called Tiramisu to get all the data of the hard drive though it took me about 14 hours to do so.
