have any of you ever heard of this happing.............

i installed Winzip 7.0 on a friends computer and after i was done winzip associated almost every type of file with winzip. Now when ever i click on anything or try to run any programs it starts winzip. I cant even shut the computer down using the start menu, because winzip will start. Virtually everything i do brings up winzip. I am at a loss, is this a virus? or did the instalation just go horribly wrong?

I'm using Winzip 8.0, which may not be current, w/o problems. Try uninstalling 7.0 and use 8.0 instead.

ummmm......i would if i could, but like i said, whenever i click on anything, including uninstall it just brings up winzip. the computer is completly usless

Uninstalling it may or may not remove the associations. I know that if you go to Windows Explorer and open the tools section and choose file types it will show the associations for each extension type. It will take longer to do though and someone here may know of a way to reset all the associations at once. You might have better luck if you post in the Software - Applications forum, rather than GH though.

edit: I think I figured out a better way. Open Winzip. Go to Configuration, goto system and choose asssociations. Uncheck the items you don't want associated with Winzip.
