Have an unopened iPod 4G 20GB on my desk. Should I keep it?

I got a free iPod (and NOT through one of those pyramid schemes) 4G 20GB. I was going to sell it, but after being unable to find a local buyer, I am thinking about keeping it.

For those of you who own digital music players, does the iPod live up to the hype? Should I keep it?

Sell it. If you want an mp3 player spend it on a good one (and pocket the money you save or get good headphones to go with it, such as Shure e3cs). If you dont' want a player, pocket all the dough.

What is a good MP3 player? I was under the impression that iPods were the best. I took a look at the Dell Pocket DJ, Creative Zen, and iRiver and none of them seemed to have controls or design that were as good.

The Dell DJ and the Creative Nomad Zen ones are good because they do NOT need itunes to work. + usually you can find 20 gb models for $100 cheaper. It not like you have a massive music collection, do you?

Gurck just hates the iPod. Personally, I would sell it and pocket all the money b/c I have no need for an mp3 player.

Search for "ipod" here and in general hardware, you'll find millions of threads detailing both sides of this issue.

Well I got the iPod for free, so cost is not a concern. True I'd be stuck in the iTunes world, but with the Dell and the Creative I'd be in WMA world, and I'm not sure that's much better. My music collection isn't massive, but I'd like room to grow.

Sell it and get an iRiver H120 or 140 off eBay. Best DAP EVAR.

Sell it and get a quality 1Gb flash player. Drop it repeatedly and celebrate the fact it still works.

the iaudio x5 looks mighty tempting... especially the x5l that is going to have a 35 hour battery life.

Why don't you try it out and see if you like it?

Edit: I really like the Zen Touch. Pretty cheap too.

I'd sell it. I bet you could get $250 for it and buy a nicer MP3 player, such as the Creative Nomad Zen.

I bought a mini and like it - it's very easy to use and transfering songs is FAST - put 3gb of songs on it in what couldn't have been longer than 15 minutes.

You're not restricted to itunes either - there's many third-party solutions, including a plugin for Winamp (which is what I use).
