Guys,

I still have a TI4600. Is that still an acceptable Video solution for games. I seem to not have issues with anything. But I am aware of new games coming out and didn't wish to have issues later one.

thanks

Oh, ya. Your GeForce4-Ti4600 is still a very powerful card. When you play DirectX 9 games like Doom3 and Half-life2 you won't be able to run Pixel Shader 2.0 or Vertex Shader 2 but rather PS 1.1 and VS 1.4. You'll be able to play Doom3 at 1024x768 with ALL the eye candy on that your GPU supports. Stick with it and see what NV40 and R420 are going to be like. I had a MSI GeForce4-Ti4400 (275/275) oc'ed to 330/315 and it beats my Radeon 9700 Pro in OpenGL still!!!

You have a great GPU. Hang onto it for another year. You won't regret it.:)

"Acceptable" is a very relative term. What's acceptable to you might not be acceptable to me. If you're not having any issues now, I'd hold onto your card. When you run into a game that you can't play at the setting that you want, then upgrade.

My Ti4400 choked on BF:V, that ended it's life after almost two years :)

The GF4Ti cards still work great except for a lack of DX9 support (currently not that big a deal) and *horrible* AA/AF performance (well, AF alone isn't *that* bad, but they really can't run effective AA at even moderate resolutions). Right now I would hold onto it until the next gen cards come out (now that NVIDIA has actually set a date for 'launching' the NV40).

Ditto. I never understood why people buy for tomorrow when prices continue to drop. Re the OP: if you have no issues now, just wait. I only buy before my card gets slow if there is some outrageous deal.

Ya, if you're not playing FPS games there's not really a lot of point. If you are what are you playing, if BFV or Far Cry aren't on your list of have to get you're probably ok.
For the record though the last time I've seen a set of games change people's thinking on upgrading when they needed to was the advent of the old 3dfx Monster Voodoo cards. All of a sudden everyone wants the biggest and the best when they're still mostly only playing DX8 games. Although I have a 9800 Pro, I still say hold out as long as you can.

No need to upgrade until your current card gives you trouble. It sounds like you're still happy with it, so just keep squirrelling away a few bucks a week for a game release that forces you to consider a new card.

My Ti4200 runs BF:V perfectly fine at 10x7 with AA/AF disabled (mostly disabled because the game artifacts miserably with my card, the 45.23s, and AA)... Not sure why everyone thinks it needs so much graphical might. Maybe at super-high resolution, but then you wouldn't need AA/AF, so that kind of defeats the purpose... :/

Anyway, if you have a Ti4600, stick with it until NV40, the NV25s are fantastic GPUs and I don't intend on replacing my Ti4200 until Half-Life 2 comes out, or NV40 crushes the competition for a decent ($200) price.

You will but YOU MAY HAVE TO TURN SOME OF THE EFFECTS DOWN A LITTLE.

I noticed that alot of people claim to have problems with BF:V when using TI4600, I have the TI4600 older Visiontek one, not OC but well cooled, then I have the P4 2.8 HT, with 1GB of Corsair memory & I have no problems whatsoever. UT2K4 I run at 1600x1200 with everything on & it runs EXCELLENT.
I am also going to wait
I have looked at the FX5700 & FX5960 but the one I want is still $400 so I will have to wait.

As with all things, YMMV. If you do not need to upgrade now, then why bother? The longer you wait the cheaper better performing parts will get.

Jeff, you remind me of a curious monkey who became very famous after a chance meeting with a certain wrench. ;)
