Have a shoot tomorow

Shooting the Youth Symphony Orchestra concert tomorrow. One of a short, but growing, list of freelance event shoots I'm doing.

Just keep shooting! Those jobs will start picking up. Took me a little while of doing free gigs before the paid ones started picking up.

Ended up shooting with the D40 "backup". (battery issues with the D2H)No real great shots; some group shots before the performance, live while performing and snapshots during the reception afterwards. I wasn't able to gain any height for the live shots because the videographer was hogging all the spare space in the booth. Seems the customer was more concerned with the video/DVD than the stills for promotions.

Lighting was a bit of a challenge in the auditorium. I'd forgotten just how good the D40 did in low light. Tried using the S95 for low key snapshots. Blew out the highlights pretty badly with the auditorium lights (spots on white shirts with a generally dark background). The S95 did well at the reception, it was a lot less obvious that I was taking pictures than it would be with the DSLR.
