Have a secured credit card, should I switch to a real one?

I have had a secured credit card for like 6 months now. I'm trying to build credit and I just got a pre-qualified letter for an Aspire Visa card. Should I switch?

How old are you? If you are still a teenager then I might wait on that.

Also, pre-qualified means nothing. They can still reject you when you send in the form. It also shows up on your credit history everytime you apply for a card. If the secured card is meeting all your needs then I might wait till you've had it for atleast a year.

I know this is going to be difficult but I would wait at least 14 months then you should definitely be able to get a regular unsecured cc.

1) It's a good idea to wait at least 12 months to show concurrent and responsible use of your secured cc.
2) Credit bureau's are always 2 months behind in reporting that's why I said 14 not 12 months.
3) You might be approved, my wife had a secured cc from her credit union for 9 months then applied for a Providian cc and was APPROVED.
