I have had a bad experience once when using a paper clip to short the power on pins on the motherboard when testing the rig outside of the box. That permantly messed up the power on switch of the board and I had to return it after that. Any of you know of a safer method for doing this?

Yeah. I just tap the two pins with my screwdriver. :(

holy cow is this the real JonnyGuru, if so love you PSU reviews!

And thanks everyone, I fail to see why my paper clip not working while screwdriver works for this. But anyhow I will be rebuilding a rig soon so will give that a shot. I also love the kits, looks pretty cool can monitor HDs etc. Might actually go for one.

Did you short the pins on the motherboard that a power switch would normally connect to, or did you short the green wire on the main ATX connector to a ground?

The former should be perfectly safe, the latter is not a good idea when the supply is connected to a motherboard.
