Have a Question for Those with Gallbladder Issues. (Might be kinda serious)

This might be a better question for Health and Fitness, but that forum seems to be dedicated more toward the latter, so I'm posting it here.

So, as some here know, I’ve lost and gained a ton of weight three times in my life (approx 150lbs each time). Been keeping it off this time for four years, and I do that by eating healthy, and physical activity.
Here lately, I’ve been having more and more digestive issues which I used to be able to control by eating healthy which is something I have to do anyway to keep weight off. But, that doesn’t seem to be working as well anymore. I’ve had my gallbladder looked at before (due to severe abdominal pain), and they never found gallstones. Only that my gallbladder was swollen. That said, given the weight loss that I've experienced from up to 395lbs to, 190lbs currently; I’m pretty sure at this point, that my gallbladder is pretty much the equivalent to an alcoholics liver.

Yesterday morning, I was feeling fine and on my to work. And suddenly I was overcome by severe nausea, and I stopped my car to get out and take care of business, then I felt a very sharp stabbing pain in my right side, and I threw up. I’ve been feeling nausea, and chills ever since. My right side has been sore, and tender ever since (where I felt the stabbing pain). Ended up going to an urgent care, and I had a low grade of fever 99.4 (my body temp typically runs below average), and because they’re aware of my history, they want to look have my gallbladder looked at again. They also want to check out my appendix.

The thing is that I’ve been down this road before with my gallbladder. I remember one incident when they thought I had gallstones, but they did an ultrasound, and they found no gallstones, but my gallbladder was swollen. I've also had other issues pertaining to that, but nothing ever so painful and sudden. I’m aware that my gallbladder is in all likelihood shot to hell. I have been having other issues with bowel movements an inexplicable diarrhea, and constipation. My appetite has also been kinda strange too. I'll feel hungry enough to eat an entire meaI, take a few bites, and suddenly lose my appetite. So, basically I've been snacking on peanut butter crackers throughout the day, so I'm not starving myself. I guess there’s a lot of circumstantial evidence pointing to my gallbladder being the culprit, but I have a problem with getting a surgery to remove an organ without being 100% sure.

I'm getting tests done today, and I'm a little worried because I've never felt anything like that pain I had yesterday morning. The doctor said, if that happens again, or if my fever worsens, that I should go straight to the ER, so I am a little worried. But if this turns out to be another wild goose chase, should I just get my gallbladder removed?

How exactly are you keeping the weight off from a dietary standpoint? Also, it may not be the gallbladder, but something attached to it like the liver. For instance, a fatty liver from a high-fat diet )e.g. keto) might be something to rule out. Then again, you may need to go back to the gastrointerologist and have the entire GI path looked at. Even then it might be something completely different.

Nothing fancy really. I just try to keep myself under 2,000 calories while focusing on fiber, and avoiding processed fats, and sugars. I was more strict while I was losing weight, and on the last 20lbs or so, I had to focus on cutting fat/sugar out of my diet more so than calories. Now that I'm just keeping it off, I follow a similar regimen, though not as strict. My meats consist mostly of white meat chicken, turkey and occasionally lean pork. I rarely eat red meat. Off the top of my head, the most fatty things I'll eat regualry are my Greek Yogurts.

FWIW, peanut butter crackers aren't my typical go to snack. My lack of appetite has me concerned, and I don't feel like I can eat much. So I feel like I should have something that at least has some nutritional value in a small package that also doesn't turn my stomach.

that is text book kidney stone, depending on where exactly the pain is.

My wife has gallbladder issues too. After a lot of doctors visits her conclusion is that its removal is a very last resort.
Keep your weight and diet steady. It seems you are doing all the right things even though some damage may been done.
Lack of appetite may lead to a form of anorexia which can damage the gallbladder as well as other parts of your digestive system. This scares me the most about your post.

Just to update everyone.

It turns out that my gallbladder isn't in the best shape, but still functioning, and hence I still have mine. However this digestive issue did take some time to resolve, and it was found that I had acute appendicitis. I had my operation over the thanksgiving weekend, and lost 24lbs in the past month due to lack of appetite and recurring vomiting over this. Finally starting to feel like me again, and for the first time in my life, I actually need to gain weight at 166lbs at 6'0". Appetite isn't all there yet, but it's coming back, and weight gain during this time of year shouldn't be a problem. I just wanna get back to 190 like I was.

good to hear you have a diagnosis and a cure.

Best of luck in your future.
