Have a question about IE Version 8

Hi all,

I've got windows xp pro and IE version 8.06001.18702 Cipher 128bit installed
and I tried to go to Walmart's website to see their black friday's specials and
when you put in the zip code and locate your local store and you want to see
the items your local store will have on special the webpage will never load.
I have the same browser on 4 different computers and you can't view it on any of
them. The boss'es computer has IE 7 and it works like a charm....it works like a
charm with Google Chrome also.....

I talked to Walmart's "tech" support and told her all the facts and she said something about restarting my computer and seeing if it would work then......I asked her if they had any real web techs and she said that was what she was......so I said goodbye.

I'm guessing maybe the page won't load because of IE security settings? I played with them but it never made any difference on my PC.

. What's this cipher stuff? That may be the problem.

That means that the https (SSL) is 128bit encryption capable. It does not relate to the problem.

Many Online vendors have very "sloppy sites". Something in the advance setting (or security) of the browser probably blocks something in the scripts (or plugins) that Walmart uses on its sites.

Weird deal.....IE 7 works but IE 8 doesn't.......not just 1 computer but 4 different PC's and none of them will view it with IE 8.

What that means is that there is something in the default security setting of IE 8 that does not let the Walmart page function correctly

Or in other wods the Walmart's site managers do Not bother to check their codes with few common Browsers.

Have you tried using the Compatibility View option next to the address bar? That should force IE 8 to render as IE 7 would (assuming its an HTML markup issue).

Yes....I've had the compatibility settings on but apparently that wasn't the issue.....I should have asked Ms. Tech support person what browser she was using but I'm not sure
if she had enough sense to look and see what she was running.....

If I currently log to Walmart.com with IE8 the page goes crazy.

It just flickering all the time. D:

On the other hand IE7 and Firefox355 works OK. 😀

Computer Enthusiasts fail to see that most others that deals with computers do not care to understand beyond their default duties. ^_^

You are wasting your time on something that is beyond simple control. Just use for the specific purpose that you need from Walmart another browser, and be done with. 😀

Did you try my link and enter just the zip code? That brings up a list of stores in my area, and this is what the store ad shows:

No flicker or motion. This was with IE8 in my Vista system. It works the same way in XP Pro and 7. Could it be a setting in IE8 that I do differently? I do not use the default setting - I use Medium High.

Yes I tried that link also.......no luck......My security setting is Medium High also ....on 4 different pc's.....covering xp pro and windows 7 and vista but the one common thing is the IE 8...........

Chrome got me a look at what I wanted anyway but glitches like this always bugs me.

It does not work on IE8 on either of my 2 computers as well. Same setting Medium High At first, I thought it was a Pop Up blocker stopping it. Now I am not sure. It looks to me like bad web site coding. Since the ads are tailored to the market area, some may be done correct and other areas, like Riverdale, NJ are not.

If every "low life" out there that does not do his work right bugs you, you are not going to have happy life. ()🙂

I have a regular installation of IE8 and I keep on the HD a portable versions of FF, and Chrome.

What ever does the work is OK with me. This time it Walmart and IE8, other times there are sites that work well with IE8, and do Not work well with FF, and so On and so On.

If I am going to change my Browser settings every time some one else does a careless Job I am Not going to have a "Happy life" either.:sneaky:

This is the URL for my local Walmart. Does this work for you?

LOL, the plot thickens by the day. 😱

Today IE8 renders walmart.com correctly. 🙂

Someone probably complained and they fixed during the night.

Using corkyg special link with Firefox brings Walmart right away.

Using corkyg link with IE8 yields blank screen. 🙁

I think that there was something wrong with Walmart's usage of flash yesterday.

However, I am not going to try researching it.

As I say before I an not going to tweak my system every time the a Coder some where make a mistake.

:\Ha- I too have restarted my computer many times all by myself. When I call Dish Nerwork with a problem I start by telling them all the things I've already tried.
As for the blank page of Walmart's richfx monthly ad page, I too have had the same problem on my and my wife's computer running the latest ie8. And I too could always use Chrome to open it but it still bugged me that ie8 wouldn't open it and nobody knows why. I've tried all the suspect things like security settings, etc. and searched with little success. Just now as I was looking at said blank page I noted my zoom level was set to 125% as is normal. I clicked it to 100% and the stupid ad page opened!!! I can switch back to 125% and it stays but I still cannot open the ad at 125% zoom level, only at 100% or less. Guess I can live with this.
Ha-
Ken
