Hi guys, so i've been at this for 24 hours and have still no clue how to start this thing. It's for my network class but heres the problem:

I need to discuss the implementation of database replication for an international company, now i could make this company up lets say XYZ, it has 5 offices around the world, now we are pursuing replication but i need to know how this is going to work. I am thinking my intial stage of setting would be the centralized database lets say located in new york. now if i have offices in lets say

LA
Vancouver
Ney York - headoffice i guess
London
Hong Kong

so intially lets say i was using the central database approach , im not sure how that would work too..would dat mean i have a server at each location connected to several office computers through a switch, the server is connected to a WAN , then the WAN is connected to each other server in each office and each server is conected to a switch in each office...??

i need to figure out the costs and stuff too bout this thing...so lets say initally i was doing all my data updates to one master server in Newyork i guess...could that work as a company? if i had a office in asia and europe how could i work with an office in neyyork as a head office and do data transfers....:S and would this overseas connection be a leased line? like ATM? or just a WAN =:S

anyhow that was intial stage, now i want to put database replication and lets say Newyork is the main datacenter, i plan to now every night do a transfer from Ny to all other locations overnight, how would i do this? and what possible connection can i use?

I am so confused about this whole process i dont know how it should be connected.

They want me to discuss the implenetation, problems id face, benefits, but i need to show them what connections i would use and how much they would be roughly as compared to the old system...thanks again!

Okay that just confused me more, i guess i am looking from a beginner's standpoint of how the diagram would look like. How do i connect these offices or warehouses together, from the WAN, LAN point.

So lets say 3 computers per office - 1 switch - 1 server - 1 router ----------------------------connected to a WAN----------connected to other servers ?

?? so initially i had a database in Newyork for north america and one in Europe where i my branches would get their information from?

do i make this intially as a distributed database with 2 head offices in 2 continents? or do i make this a central system initially with 1 HO in NEwyork and all the other offices/warehosue are connected to this one network at first, but growing demands and more networks have produced lag and now i need to replicate the whole database at each warehouse?
