I just put together a 2.4GHz P4 witha Geforce4. I need some recommendations on what to play. The last new game I got was Wolfenstein. I'm open to most anything except fantasy/magic type games and sports games. So please let me know what you like or what to avoid!

Jedi Knight 2? You shouldn't pass this gem, especially with your nice new PC.

Also, Serious Sam 2 and Empire Earth (most recent RTS I can think of, until WC3 or Masters Of Orion 3). I'm drawing blanks as to others because most everything I would recommend came out before Wolfenstein and I'm assuming you've played everything good since then.

Skace, before RTCW I hadn't played much lately, so any games in the last ~6 months are ok too.

Hrm... Well I will just list a few and hope they came out 6 months ago then.

Hitman (Hitman 2 due out soon)
No One Lives Forever
Ghost Recon
Undying

Ok I'm drawing blanks again.. I think I've been playing lots of EQ and Counter-Strike in the past 6 months. Ah well, maybe if I had a list of games that came out in the past 6 months I could pick the good ones :p.

I have no concept of time.

In addition to the above:

Medal of Honor (MOHAA)
Half Life: All series (Blue Shift & Opposing Force if you prefer SP mode)
Red Faction (too old?)
Soldier of Fortune (another olddie)

Deux Ex was excellent, but really struggled on older systems. Now that I've put together a new PC, that's one of the first ones I'm installing and pushing the graphics to the highest settings (and seeing what I was missing!). :)

don't be forgetting them strategy RTS games :) C&C: Red Alert 2 was great in my opinion, if you like RPGs you can go for Wizadry 8 / Diablo 2, or if you like simulator stuff you can go with Rollercoster Tycoon.

Half-Life and ALL the mods are a MUST. RTCW and MOH are necessary, and IMO black n white was good too. :)

Max Payne was the first game I played on my new system. Its good eye candy on a fast machine and fun as well

Thanks, everyone!

Maybe I'll try MOH or Jedi Knight 2. I've already played Half-Life, Max Payne, and Deus EX, and Soldier of Fortune. All were quite good really.

This may be a little different, but I have greatly enjoyed the recently released Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 for the PC. The graphics are quite good ? requires DirectX 8.1 ? and the gameplay is absolutely engaging. Even if you don't care for skateboarding, the play is so compelling that it will draw you in to its world.

Best,
