Ok, I have an old computer that I installed linux on. I want to reformat it back to one partition and into FAT so I can put windows on it. Can I delete the linux partitions and format during a windows install? or do i have to format it somehow before I try to install windows. Step by step instructions would be helpful if possible. Thanks!

You may be able to do it during a windows install. It would be safer if you used a Dos boot disk with "Fdisk" on it to delete the partitions and maybe create a new dos partition. Then boot off the windows install cd if you can and it should be fine, select the entire drive and then format if it asks you if you want to. It should rewrite the MBR too.

Bump to someone who knows more.

As already said. Use a Win9x or DOS boot disk then do a fdisk /mbr to clear the Linux bootloader.
After that run fdisk again and delete the "non-DOS" partition. Rebuild the partition/s and format as normal.

I'm fairly sure that you can just boot from the 2K (if that's what yer using) or XP CD and format the drive from there. I've done it with 2K.

Get the free utility killdisk. Put it on a floppy. Make sure your BIOS boots up from the floppy first. (most do) Then my friend, follow the easy instructions and "killdisk.exe"...kills all data. Then insert your Win XP, format and install. Works every time.
