Have a chance to trade 3 month old Evo 4g for Epic 4g, should I do it?

Well, I have an HD2 w/ Android (essentially an Evo) and had the Epic.

Personally, I'd go with the Epic - but the hardware keyboard is a big selling point to me. I also like the SuperAMOLED screen a lot better, and I actually prefer 4" to 4.3".

Its not all rosy, though. the Evo gets better battery life, and I don't know if they've fixed the GPS issues or not.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I'm finding that I am missing a hardware keyboard a bit. The screen + speed increase are also attractive to me. But I'm surprised to here the battery life is worse than the evo, which is already pretty bad :D

The other thread about processors reminded me to add that the Epic has a much, MUCH better GPU. So if you do any gaming, it is a much stronger platform.

Neither of them have good battery life, the Epic was just especially bad for me. That could be largely due to the fact that my office is a very low signal area for Sprint, and CDMA hits the battery hard with weak signals.

With certain ROM's Ive been able to get 15+ hours on my epic.

Depends on use, I've seen well north of 24hrs on my EVO with light use. My opinion is if you really need a hardware keyboard, go for it. Otherwise Samsung is evil.

I'm right with you. The only crappy thing so far has been Samsungs Froyo release, it kind of sucks, even if it is still pre release canidate. With some 2.1 ROMs like baked ultimate you can get insane battery life. I've been playing with Froyo and I do have to say at least they have mostly fixed the battery issue. It is as good or better than most ROMs, but it is a bit slower right now.

Wait, the Evo gets better battery life than something? Really?

Man, my ONLY complaint on the Evo is the battery life. Otherwise, I love it.

To be honest, other than the Motorola Droid line, most Android phones get pretty craptastic battery life. And even Droid's aren't GREAT...they're just better.

They're fairly similar. Both are fast, but the Epic is faster. The Epic has Swype preloaded so I never really use the hardware keyboard. But it's still useful for some things, like gaming. Emulators are 100x better on the Epic because of the keyboard.

Battery life is fairly poor on both. I think the Epic's screen looks better; the Evo's still looks good but it is more washed out.

Honestly they are both great phones. If I had to choose, I would pick the Epic, but the Evo is still great. Also, Sense is much better than TouchWiz, and HTC has more support for their phones. We're still waiting for Samsung to release 2.2 for the Epic; it's been leaked but it's not officially available yet. Meanwhile, the Evo got 2.2 months ago.
