right now i have a computer with both a CD-ROM and a CD-RW drive. so i just put the music cd in the CD-ROM, and record the tunes from there onto the CD-RW.

but what if I build a computer with just a CD-RW drive, and no CD-ROM.

am curious... .... how does one record musical CD's?

do you first record the songs to the hard drive? and then record from the hard drive to the CD-RW drive?

thanks

Yup. Just use a ripping program to rip the songs to .wav files on your HD, then burn them back onto the CD. I prefer CDex for ripping. If there's special stuff on the disc, or even if there isn't, you can still choose CD-CD Copy, and the CD-RW will make a disc image on the HD, then burn the image to the new CD.

Yeah, you can do it like jman says, but keep in mind that many people prefer not to use their CD-RW as a general purpose reader because it puts more wear and tear on the drive. However, this thinking is starting to change because CD-RW drives are almost as cheap as regular CD-ROM drives nowadays. Personally, I have a DVD drive as my main reader.

Your cd burning software should be able to make cd copies without a cd-rom drive just using your cdrw drive. For instance, nero will copy the contents of your source cd to your hd then duplicate it by writing it to a cd-r afterwards.
