Have a 8800GTS 512? Your temps?

I'm going to install the side fan that came with my Lian Li but can't right now as I need an extension cable for one of the power plugs which currently is blocking the area

Anyway, I'm pretty shocked at these temps. Is this what I should be expecting from the stock cooler?

My temps are below...new build...

Temperatures
Motherboard 35 °C (95 °F)
CPU 46 °C (115 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #1 39 °C (102 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #2 40 °C (104 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #3 35 °C (95 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #4 34 °C (93 °F)
North Bridge 51 °C (124 °F)
South Bridge 49 °C (120 °F)
GPU 72 °C (162 °F)
GPU Ambient 57 °C (135 °F)
HDT722525DLA380 39 °C (102 °F)
WDC WD5000KS-00MNB0 39 °C (102 °F)

You're scaring me, I'm getting a GTS next week. The stock cooler is supposed to be much better than the GT.

Looks like it's pretty common...

http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=195617&mpage=1&key=

For some reason, you have to force the fan to pick up in speeds. The fan right now is barely moving - I feel no air being pulled. I probably won't bother messing with it and see what evga has to say when they reopen. Hoping to see something official in their forums

my g92 gts runs at 35C idle @ 50% fan and at load 50C @50%fan i dunno whats going on with yours... your're whole case seem to be pretty hot

I'm not the only one experiencing this issue so it's not my case. The fan has to be moving a bit for it to actually cool and right now it isn't. It's not the case

But wouldn't that restrict it to one setting at all times? And there isn't version that fully supports the card at the moment right?

My Evga 8800GTS 512mb is idling at 45C right now.
But i do have the fan at 53% and its in an ANtec 900 case. (750/1950/1800)

I assume you're also using rivatuner? But is it a good idea to restrict the speed to one setting?

You can use Rivatuner to set the fan to speed up after a certain temperature threshold is passed, look around for RivaTuner guides. It works brilliantly if you set it right.

Only reason its at one setting right now is because this pc has been through quite a few different cards the last few weeks and i got tired of setting all my fan profiles every time i switch in a new 8800GT / 8800GTS and drivers . (just ask anyone in the FS/trade forum...LOL)

Anyway, i'll be setting my fan profiles again later.

But putting it at one set fixed speed isnt gonna hurt the card in the slightest bit.

I obviously will have to look into rivatuner in the morning. When you say profiles, is it that RivaTuner will switch profiles depending on activity? Like say loading up a game

Fan profiles based upon what temperature your card runs at is a more effective way to govern the fan speeds using RivaTuner, though I believe you could set specific fan speeds based upon game as well.

I wouldn't want to do it per game but was just curious if it changed during specific activity

Ntune also offers the fan option if you don't want to mess with rivatune. I've had mine in auto but I just used ntune to adjust my fan to 59% and my idle temp is 109F. You also have to look at your case flow as if you don't have any air flow in yours you can't expect your card fan to pull cooler air through it's cooler. My case has massive air flow, so much so that you can put your hand by any exhaust port and feel air exiting the case.

You're assumning I have no airflow?

http://users.rcn.com/andyd2k/new.jpg

That's my current setup - bottom fan, top fan and back fan. I'll have the side fan installed as soon as I get an extension cable for one of the power cables - currently obstructs the area so I have to leave it out for now

Also, adjusting the fan in rivatuner to 50% made a world of difference - it went from 71 to 53 within minutes

The video card itself is a problem. I think if you disable rivatuner, you'll notice your temps will jump unless you have other cooling going on. now, as far as my cpu cooling, i am using a fan that may be better for noise levels than it is for temps. Otherwise, everything else is out of my hands.

Hard drives were always that hot. There is already a fan blowing directly at them - not much else I can do there. Can't really improve airflow beyond what it is now besides adding the vid card cooler that comes with the Lian Li

If you want to see air flow then you need to look at my xclio windtunnel which has two 250mm fans on the side and two 120mm fans, one at the front and one at the back. There's an exhaust port on the back side of the hd rack which lets the hot air from them leave the case without mixing with the main flow. Like I've said before this is the coolest case I've ever owned, literally.

Is there any way to disable the motherboard section of ntune? It keeps messing with my case fan speeds.

Check your settings to make sure that the mb part is not controlled by ntune. By default it doesn't mess with anything unless you tell it to.

Andy,

If those are your idle temps, you have a serious problem. Nothing seems out of whack on your case at all. From looking over your post, my guess is that perhaps the TIM applied from eVGA was done sloppy... Even with the fan on auto 29%, my eVGA idled at 46c.

Now,if it were under load with the fan at auto, I would expect 72-75c easily. Mine would do that too under load if I didn't set the fan at 50%. There is a point where heat output exceeds heat dissipation. 29% works great for idle because not much heat needs to be dissipated, but once you turn the heat output up (Crysis) the fan at 29% cannot dissapate the heat nearly quick enough and since it cannot keep up, the temps will start rising, and rising, and rising. It the heat dissipatation offset is minor, this could result in as small of a degree increase an hour. If you turn up the fan the problem is fixed in this situation.

Good luck, but again, if this is idle temperatures you have a problem. But if these are loads, you do NOT have a problem. You simply need to adjust fan or leave the temperatures at 75c. Running the card at 75c will not hurt it, either... So, if 75c is load, you can leave it there without any worries. The card *should* long outlast the theoretical life, at least beyonds its usefullness.
