Have a 6800GT. Should I get a 6800 Ultra, 7800GT or wait for the 7800GTX to drop some more?

I've only had the 6800GT since January. I'd kind of like to wait before my next video card upgrade but F.E.A.R is really taxing my system.

It may not be worth it to upgrade each time a new game comes out but I do like to see the games in all their glory.

I guess if I wait until the next video card cycle, I could always put F.E.A.R. back in and check it out.

Ultra not worth it.... 7800GT is sometimes cheaper. Then again, do you really need it? Are you running at some uberhigh res or something?

My current config is fine with HL2 or Doom3 (probably Quake4 haven't tried it). F.E.A.R. just really seems hard to run. I guess I need to play around with the settings some more. I'd be happy to have 10x7 with 2AF and some of the nice effects enabled.

6800ultra speeds is easily achieved with 6800gt overclocking. 7800 gt is minimum for upgrade, but i suggest yuo wait.

a 6800Gt isnt to bad. Lower details and res a bit maybe. Dont get an ultra. They run hotter and need more power than 7800gt's. Not worth it.

I would let ATI and NVIDIA fight it out and let prices drop a bit. However if you really wanted a newer card, the 7800gt can be had already below $300 or so. The evga has cardpool rebates and also get a free copy of COD2 so...

I'm also contemplating a 7 series card, but think I'll wait a bit longer, 7800GT is a good buy right now. See what comes down the pipe? But if you keep waiting and waiting you never get anything.

F.E.A.R. is really taxing my system at 1680x1050, have had to drop down to med quality on everything.

You could wait until the 7800 Ultra comes out.

Lighting & softshadows are very taxing on even a 7800GT.

FEAR runs just fine on my system with everything max'd 1024x768 2xx/4af. personally i'd hold off until next gen when r520/g70 drop in price, or next gen offers performance worth the additional cost.

on a seperate note, as with far cry, now that i've completed fear sp, i doubt i will play it again (unless some awesome mp mod comes out for it). i'm finding quake4 sp more interesting, and quake4 mp is much more fun for me, and of course you can run that in higher res than fear and still have better performance.
